Samsung SyncMaster 226BW

Most games look fantastic. Perfect for productivity applications. No light bleed. High contrast.

Not as well-suited to movies. Even at street prices of AU$450 there are better options. Hard to calibrate correctly.

Given its gaming credentials, it's no surprise the Samsung SyncMaster 226BW is best for games, but it's expensive and feature-poor.

Syncmaster 206BW

The SyncMaster 206BW's thin black bezel and curved edges are attractively sleek.  Despite very good image quality, the 206BW lacks a lot of connectivity options, so this 20-inch wide-screen LCD is better for office than home-entertainment use.

Aesthetically pleasing design Very good text and graphics performance

No cable management Weak grayscale performance

Like many Samsung monitors, this model also includes the company's MagicBright presets for text, Internet, game, sport, and movies. Samsung's MagicColor, accessible only from the OSD menu, actually adjusts the saturation to make colors more vivid. A...

Samsung 226BW

Initially we thought Samsung's 226BW might rise above the pack in the 22-inch category. This LCD boasts 16.7 million colors, suggesting superior 8-bit technology. But when we did side-by-side testing next to the Hanns.G model, we were mightily...

Limited ergo options, poor ; vertical off-axis, so-so image

Limited ergo options, poor ; vertical off-axis, so-so image

The $100 premium Samsung charges over Hanns.G’s model gets you fancier trim and HDCP support. Like the Hanns.G, the picture is serviceable—but nothing special—and the screen is free of any image artifacts in games.

Samsung Syncmaster 206BW

In keeping with the prevailing aesthetic of this category, Samsung's 206BW is fancily clad in black plastic and brushed aluminum, much like ViewSonic's VX2035wm. And as with that model, you can tilt the screen only forward and back. The height stays...

Superb grayscale; strong real-world performance

No screen-height adjustment; subtle perimeter backlight seepage

The 206BW’s performance in DisplayMate was strong. Evidence of backlight seepage around the extreme perimeter of the screen was its most notable failing. That was sufficiently offset by stellar grayscale reproduction and marked distinctions between...

Samsung SyncMaster 206BW LCD monitor

The Samsung SyncMaster 206BW is a very good wide-screen desktop display. It is competitively priced and, once calibrated, performed very well in our text and color tests. But, of course, you get what you pay for.

Wide screen; very good text legibility; relatively inexpensive

No height adjustment; mediocre viewing angle

The 206BWsports a shiny black case with silver accents and rounded edges. The buttons used to navigate through the on-screen menus are located on the bottom of the display, and each button's function is clearly marked just above it, making them easy to...

Samsung SyncMaster 206BW Review

Samsung's latest family of BW monitors have hit the shelves boasting some impressive new specifications and a fresh new style.

The 206BW is a very good monitor for the price. Although it has some weaknesses like some gradient banding and an unimpressive stand, the positive aspects of the monitor greatly outweigh these. Excellent colour right out of the box, good viewing...
