Sharp LL-172G series

The Sharp LL-172G is a good-looking LCD, but its looks are marred by its average image quality.

Sturdy; adjustable; posh-looking design.

Pricey; mediocre image quality; weak, tinny speakers.

A nice-looking, well-designed LCD with a few small image-quality flaws.

Sharp LL-172G

A flexible, efficiently designed stand makes this monitor a standout for the price.

Efficient design and ergonomics not often seen in a modestly priced monitor make the Sharp LL-172G a smart buy--a Best Buy, in fact.

Sharp LL-172G

The Sharp LL-172G is an attractive display that justifies a higher cost than much of its competition.

Digital and analog signal support. Excellent printed documentation. Better-than-average speakers.

Weak on light gray shades. No autosync or mute buttons.

Sharp LL-172A

The analog-only Sharp LL-172A has a stylish case, built-in speakers, and a slightly higher price tag than most monitors in its class.

The thin bezel and speakers are plusses for the LL-172A, as is its mostly good image quality. But limited viewing angles leave it only slightly better than the middle of the pack.

Sharp LL-172A-B

Crisp and advanced controls come together in this smart buy.

The Sharp LL-172A-B delivers crystal-clear text at a reasonable price.

LL-172A

The Sharp LL-172A-B impressed our jury with its crisp text, particularly in the Microsoft Word and Excel screens. In fact, it earned the highest text score of all 17-inch LCDs we've tested lately. Graphics looked less spectacular; detail was obscured...
