3M EM500GPS Ergonomic Mouse (small/medium) review: 3M EM500GPS Ergonomic Mouse (small/medium)

3M EM500GPS Ergonomic Mouse (small/medium)

Unusual, joystick-like design reduces forearm twisting; available in two sizes; inexpensive; includes PS/2 adapter.

Buttons not programmable; no left-handed version available.

The 3M EM500 Ergonomic Mouse requires some adaptation, and it offers only the most basic mouse functionality. But the payoff is a more comfortable mousing experience.

Should Be The New Standard Design

I have pretty large hands for someone my size... and I'm 6 feet tall! Anything smaller than a full size keyboard or mouse feels like a child's toy in my hands. I was really worried that the "Large" version of this mouse was going to feel 2½ sizes too...

I'm heartbroken that Newegg only allows me such a limited space to voice my love of this mouse. For almost two decades I've suffered from chronic pain and discomfort in joints throughout my right arm. I've tried nearly every form of "ergonomic" mouse...

The cons with this mouse are the same with any non-standard-form device ; Yes, it will take some time before you're as good with this mouse as you are with your old one ; Yes, it is a little taller than you're used to, so the first few times you switch...

3M EM500GPL 3 Buttons USB Optical Ergonomic Mouse

Fast shipping and processing as usually, that's why I keep coming back.

Cold painful hand from repetitive stress injury is gone. Comfortable, easy to get used to (for me anyway)

I would have given this thing 5 eggs if it had a scroll wheel, some applications just don't work with just a third button, rather annoying really ; Nothing to do with Newegg

Finally found a mouse that doesn't kill

The scroll function is useless, but I've got a scroll wheel on my keyboard that I use anyway, so I could care less. I've been using this mouse for about two months now, and no longer have to get my wife to open (most) jars.

I have digital tendon entrapment syndrome (also called "trigger finger"), which is like CTS, but the restriction is in my palm, not wrist. This is the only mouse I've found, that doesn't require anything from your index finger. The weight of your arm...

I've you've got dozens of brand new mouses sitting in a desk drawer, and have paid $500 for cortisone injections, so I would have gladly paid an extra $10 for a little better quality

L=Large, S=Small

Double check your hand size before ordering!

Seems to work as advertised

The description on NewEgg didn't explain that there is a difference between the two models listed. I should have figured it out, but must have been having a dim day ; The "L" Model is large, for people with hands 3.5-4" across he nuckles. The "S" model...

Reduced wrist strain

If you are experiencing wrist strain I would seriously consider this mouse. I'm ordering a second one for work. It can be used alongside a traditional mouse if desired so it doesn't have to be an "either/or" decision.

As a computer programmer and hobbyist, I spend many hours a day using the mouse. Using this one at home has significantly reduced the pain in my right wrist. I use it mostly for browsing the internet and playing World of Warcraft

Not as precise as a traditional mouse, not enough to be competitive in first person shooters (Quake etc). For me that's ok

Obviously well designed

Does what is it supposed to do, and well.

In my work I use a mouse all the time, and my hand was feeling very strained. This mouse has alleviated the strain I felt in my shoulder, wrist, and fingers. I am really happy with it. It's easy to get the hang of the new button orientation, it feels...

It is wired which gets in the way in my rather small workspace. It is also a bit pricey.
