Samsung S2

Simple, compact design; fast transfer speeds; generous three-year warranty; inexpensive; available in a rainbow of colors.

Included backup and password protection software doesn't support Mac OS.

Although we dinged its predecessor because of its inflated price tag, the Samsung S2 Portable hard drive earns high marks and our recommendation for being reasonably priced, having fast file-transfer speed, and for having a generous three-year warranty.

Samsung YP-S2

The YP-S2, aka the Pebble, won't win any awards for sound quality or battery life, but it's a cheap, gym-friendly iPod shuffle competitor.

Small and lightweight. Cheap. Gym-friendly earphones. Can create playlists on the go.

Earbuds lack bass. Necklace earphone design not for everyone. Cable-free PC connection is awkward.

Samsung S2 Pebble

The Samsung S2 Pebble is an excellent value: it's inexpensive, sounds great, and offers a sleek and stylish design. It also includes a couple of useful extras, such as an on-the-go playlist and sound effects. The earphone plug design is handy.

There's no screen, and operating the Samsung S2 Pebble's extra functions takes some practice.

Admittedly I'm not a big fan of MP3 Players without screens since I like to be able to browse what is one my player, but I do see their appeal. Samsung is the third major brand to release a screenless player right after the Shuffle and the Zen Stone....

No LCD screen, simple feature set

Samsung's YP-S2 Pebble MP3 player is a unit for those after something basic. It does a good job with music playback and it looks stylish, but it lacks the features of its more expensive counterparts.
