Sony Walkman NW-A805

The NW-A805 is Sony's first Walkman player that supports video playback. Offering a stunning, compact design, a bright and clear 2in screen and excell...

Design, user interface, controls, excellent equaliser and sound settings, included EX monitor headphones

Price, reliance on poor SonicStage software, location of hold switch

The NW-805 comes with a hefty price tag, but if you can overlook the reliance on SonicStage, this is a fine portable media player with an excellent design and good sound quality.

Sony Walkman NW-A805

A cracking video/mp3 player, pity about the software.

Elsewhere the layout is much of a muchness. Volume is controlled by a rocker on the right edge and along the bottom edge are connections for the data cable and your headphones. The main controls are situated under the screen, in easy reach of your thumbs.

Sony Walkman NW-A805 review

The granddaddy of portable audio gets it right at last

Attractive Easy-to-use menus

Expensive Software not brilliant

It's overpriced, but it's also well designed. The best Sony MP3 player for a while

Sony NW-A805 review

Excellent - stylish looks, great sound and picture quality

Stylish looks ; great sound and picture quality ; surprisingly accomplished headphones

2GB will fill fast, especially with video ; bundled software is clumsy

Yet another fantastic, non-Apple mini MP3 player. The nano’s facing its strongest ever rivals...

Sony Walkman NW-A805 MP3 player

Sony's Walkman range over the past couple of years has been, let's face it, lost in the wilderness. Mention Walkman to the average man in the street and they are more likely to mention Sony Ericsson's brand of music-focused phones rather than the MP3...

Easy to use, battery life, ability to play video

Screen is still too small to benefit, bundled software

For the extra £40 RRP you get the ability to play video, which will certainly appeal to the YouTube generation and as long as your video quality is good, the picture is stunning if not small. As a music player the Sony is very good, the interface is...

Sony NW-A805 Walkman review

Sony's A805 Walkman won a Most Wanted award in What's New, Shopper August 2007 for its superior sound and attractive design. However, next to Samsung's similarly priced YP-T9 player, it looks less good value today.

The A805 sounds fantastic and comes with the best headphones in this test. Its battery life is a strong point, but if you want to use your MP3 player on multiple PCs, the SonicStage software is restrictive. An 8GB version, the NW-A808, is also...

Sony NW-A805 media player

The Sony NW-A805 is an inexpensive, stylish and intuitive portable media player. Sony's NW-A805 Walkman could make Sony MP3 players as big a success as Sony's Walkman phones.

Video playback, audio quality and the Sony NW-A805's design are all absolutely superb. The management software and playback options are good but not fantastic. Sony shook up the music player market with its excellent Walkman-branded mobile phones, and...

Sony Walkman NW-A805 review

Sony has taken its first step into the world of portable video with this Walkman. And what a debut it is

Last month we asked if the NW-800 range could catch Apple napping? It can and it has.

Sony Walkman NW-A805

Saying that Sony dropped the ball doesn't begin to describe quite how catastrophic the past five years have been for the company's forays into the post-Minidisc, portable music player market

Attractive, Easy-to-use menus

Expensive, Software not brilliant

It's overpriced, but it's also well designed. The best Sony MP3 player for a while

Great in day-to-day use, but poor software and high price dent its appeal.
