Canon Pixma MP490

Canon's Pixma MP490 color inkjet multifunction printer (MFP) has a superlow price ($100 at this writing) and a simple-to-use design that should appeal to home and student users. If you print a lot, however, look elsewhere, as its ink costs are high.

Inexpensive; excellent documentation ; Simple, intuitive control panel

Garish skin tones; expensive black ink ; Poor paper tray design

It's a surprisingly decent machine for the price, but its high black ink costs are the tradeoff.

Canon PIXMA MP490 inkjet multifunction

An inexpensive inkjet multifunction with decent photo print quality

Good photo print quality, direct scanning, easy to use

No front paper cassette, no PictBridge USB port, poor LCD, expensive consumables

Not quite a bargain bin printer, Canon's PIXMA MP490 inkjet multifunction is still a decent impulse buy. It provides decent quality photo and document printing and an easy-to-use interface.

Canon PIXMA MP490

Canon shows the way with this excellent, affordable all-in-one inkjet printer.

If you have a limited budget and want good quality printing, scanning and copying, the PIXMA MP490 should be at the top of your shortlist. Canon has sensibly concentrated on the basics, but has still managed to include a useful LCD screen and card...

Canon Pixma MP490 review

We don't expect much from a machine this inexpensive, so to its credit, the Canon Pixma MP490 has some thoughtfully designed features. A small, front swing-out door protects the three media slots.

The £79 price range of the Canon Pixma MP490 MFP means tradeoffs. The high ink costs are bearable if you print infrequently; otherwise, look for a model with lower-cost inks (and a higher purchase price), such as HP's OfficeJet 6500 Wireless.

Pixma MP490 : Canon PIXMA MP490

As part of its new season range of printing devices, Canon has released the Pixma MP490 All-in-One unit.

Printing a 102-word monochrome document in Fast, Standard and High quality modes produced 18, 16 and 6ppm. While there was a noticeable difference in quality, the Fast mode would be more than satisfactory for internal use with Standard or High being...

Canon - PIXMA MP490

If your home printing needs are modest and you can afford to spend more on ink than some of its rivals, then the Canon PIXMA MP490 produces relatively good quality images for very little outlay.

Canon Pixma MP490

Canon's large, showy all-in-ones have made quite a name for themselves over the past few years, but mainly in the 100-200 price band. At the cheaper end, a few corners have had to be cut, particularly with LCD displays, but the cheap-as-chips Pixma...

The Pixma MP490 may cost a bit more to run than some of its rivals, but it's reasonably quick, very easy to maintain, well featured for a machine at its price and, above all, it produces good-quality, plain paper prints and copies, and excellent photo...

MP490

I got the printer from F-r-y-s with a very low price. Given the price it is a OK printer for documents. It would not be my choice for photo printing.

cheap (relatively), looks very beautiful. A lot of features

Color is very bad when printing photo. Looks like wash out. I have tried all kinds of settings still can not even close to the colors on my LCD screen. It has no comparison to the photo from my HP ink printer ; The scanner is OK, you can easily tell...
