Canon Selphy CP740

The Canon Selphy CP740 dedicated photo printer offers both a low initial price and relatively low running costs.

Low initial cost. Fast. Relatively low cost per photo. Reasonably high-quality photos.

Photos lose more detail in dark areas than with other printers. Preview LCD is only 2 inches. No battery option.

Selphy CP740 Photo Printer

It's slow and a bit clunky, but prints look smooth (albeit dark). Cost per print is reasonable.

Inexpensive, Reasonable cost per print

Slow ; photos can look overly dark, Needs front and rear clearance to print

Although the Selphy CP740 falls short in various small ways--whether it's the clunky paper tray, the small omissions in the documentation, or the slow print times--it does print a good photo. Its acquisition and supply prices are reasonable, too, which...

Canon Selphy CP740 review

The $100 Canon Selphy CP740 is an entry-level compact photo printer whose limited onboard feature set reflects its relative position among dedicated 4x6 photo printers. Still, we liked the quality of the prints and the printer's ease of use. If you're...

Inexpensive; good quality prints; very easy to use; retractable USB cable/connector is a nice touch.

Prints are a bit slower than the competitions'; very limited onboard photo-editing features; photo colors need a bit of improvement.

The Canon Selphy CP740 offers a decent feature package and quality prints for an inexpensive compact photo printer. Casual snapshooters will be satisfied with this, but users who need more features should look elsewhere.

Canon Selphy CP740 photo printer

The Selphy CP740 prints decent 4-by-6 inch photos, but overall its irksome limitations outweigh its benefits.

Dye-sub printing produces continuous tones and colors ; Includes retractable USB cable

Lacks advanced image-editing features ; Paper type for 4-by-6-inch prints limited to Canon postcards ; Dark prints appear flat ; Less intuitive operation than comparable printers

Though the CP740 is advertised as a compact photo printer, the only 4-by-6-inch photo paper that Canon sells for it is postcard paper. Therefore, the back of each photo you print will have lines to write on and a box to place a stamp. I found this...

Printers – Choosing a printer and getting the most from it – 003

For many, the easiest choice when buying a computer is to listen to the salesperson and take the inkjet printer he/she offers as a package deal. But will it do all the things you want it to?

Most retail stores have a sliding scale for pricing, so the more you print the cheaper it becomes. Not only is it cheaper to print through a photo store, you also save time. Can you imagine sitting at your computer and printing out a hundred 6×4 prints?
