Epson PictureMate PM-400 review

The PictureMate PM-400 is the newest portable photo printer from Epson, and lets you make lab-quality photos at home. But the convenience of this specialty printer comes at a premium.

Makes 3.5 x 5, 4 x 6 and 5 x 7-inch prints ; Compact, lightweight ; Excellent photo quality ; Wireless connectivity

Can be costly to buy, maintain ; No portable battery option

Epson PictureMate PM-400 Personal Photo Lab

The Epson PictureMate PM-400 Personal Photo Lab prints high-quality photos at up to 5 by 7 inches, but the cost of even 4-by-6 photos is higher than with Epson's 4-by-6 dedicated photo printers.

Fast. High-quality 4-by-6- and 5-by-7-inch photos. Wi-Fi Direct for connecting directly to phones and tablets. Also prints from cameras, memory cards, USB keys, and computers.

Expensive. Relatively big and heavy. Requires AC power.

Conclusion If you're only interested in printing at 4 by 6, and particularly if you also have a desktop inkjet you can use for larger sizes, the obvious choice is the Epson Charm, our Editors' Choice low-cost, small-format, dedicated photo printer....

The Epson PictureMate Zoom is faster, cheaper, and equipped with a much larger LCD than the model it replaces.

Built-in DVD/CD-RW drive for archiving photos and printing from optical discs. Low price per photo. Large LCD.

Relatively big and heavy.

Epson PictureMate Dash

Epson's PictureMate Dash redefines what a low-cost photo printer should offer.

Low cost. Low price per photo. Fast. High-quality 4-by-6-inch output. Large LCD, particularly for the price.

Relatively big and heavy.

Epson PictureMate Snap review

main content The PictureMate Snap is the middle offering of Epson's three personal photo labs. For $200--$50 more than the entry-level PictureMate Pal --you get everything the Pal offers, plus an adjustable preview LCD, faster prints, and the ability...

Fast print speeds; allows for greater control over image settings; optional battery pack available; able to crop images on printer; can save images to external storage devices; adjustable LCD.

Photo quality could be improved; frames are limited mostly to Disney-themed ones.

With its range of features, decent print quality, and fast print speeds, the Epson PictureMate Snap is a solid choice for snapshooters who want an at-home photo lab.

Epson PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition review

Epson PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition

Color LCD; battery option; economical prints; media card slots; compact design; easy operation.

A bit slow.

A color LCD and an optional battery pack make this Epson snapshot printer a formidable portable photo lab.

Epson PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition

The Epson PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition improves on the original PictureMate with faster output and more features, including a color LCD for previewing photos before printing.

Prints from computers, memory cards, PictBridge cameras, and USB drives. True, waterproof, smear-proof photo quality. Color LCD to preview images.

Needs an adapter for miniSD cards. Preview images on LCD a bit blurry.
