Lexmark X543dn

Lexmark's X543dn color laser multifunction printer offers budget-strapped small offices or workgroups a few nice features at a tempting starting price ($599 as of April 6, 2009). Unfortunately, its expensive toner makes it suitable for light-volume use...

Low purchase price ; Includes autoduplexer

Very expensive toner ; Scanner output looks cartoonish

This MFP performs decently for the most part, but its toner costs will hit you on the back end.

C543DN

Lexmark's C543dn color laser printer sports a completely new engine and is available at a temptingly low price ($399 as of 12/16/08). A small office printing simple, everyday documents might find it a good value--especially considering a duplexer comes...

Inexpensive Automatic duplexer is standard

Graphics print slowly and look grainy Company has subpar reliability record

Low-cost lasers tend to have high-cost consumables. The C543dn offers some initial relief by bundling high-yield, returnable versions of its toner supplies: a 2500-page black (K), and 2000-page cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y). At the time of our...

Lexmark C543dn Printer Review

Inexpensive ; Automatic duplexer is standard

Graphics print slowly and look grainy ; Company has subpar reliability record

This low-cost laser's standard duplexing is a bonus, but its graphics capabilities are limited.

Lexmark C543dn review

The control panel located on the top of the printer is small but includes a 2-line backlit LCD, a menu button, cancel button, back button, two directional arrow keys and an enter button (checkmark)

Excellent print quality ; Automatic duplexing ; Network capability

Slower speeds ; Small display

I would definitely recommend the C543dn to an office looking for a color laser to add to their fleet; I might shy away if this printer needs to support an office on its own

Lexmark X543dn colour laser multifunction

The Lexmark X543dn colour laser multifunction printer offers budget-strapped small offices or workgroups a few nice features at a tempting starting price.

Low initial price

Expensive toner

Lexmark's X543dn has a low enough sticker price to appeal to small offices and workgroups. Because of its exorbitant toner costs, however, we'd recommend it only for light use.

Lexmark C543DN review

A small office printing simple, everyday documents might find the Lexmark C543DN a good value - especially considering a duplexer comes as standard. But if you need to print complex graphics, you'll find faster-printing, better-looking results elsewhere.

The Lexmark C543DN would make a decent, low-cost printer for small offices with light graphics needs.
