Lexmark C544dn

The Lexmark C544dn ($499 direct) is one of the newest in a long line of impressive color laser printers from Lexmark. A little too large to serve as a truly personal printer, it's aimed at a small office, workgroup, or busy home office, with ample...

Reasonably fast. Ample paper handling. High-quality output overall, particularly for graphics and photos

Although text is easily good enough quality for most business purposes, it's a touch below par for a laser

The Lexmark C544dn offers the right balance of speed, paper handling, output quality, and size to fit nicely in a typical small office, workgroup, or busy home office.

Review: Lexmark C544dn color laser printer

With its great-looking output, small form factor, and dollar-saving toner program, Lexmark's C544dn is a good fit for a small to medium-sized workgroup looking to add color to presentations and brochures.

The C544dn features what has to be the easiest toner replacement scheme we’ve seen. A side panel opens up and the four separate cartridges (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) easily pop in and out, more like ink-jet cartridges than typical toner cartridge

Lexmark C544DN review

MarkVision Professional software gives network managers the ability to regulate who is allowed to print what

Still a worthy model; MarkVision Professional software bundled; small control panel easy to navigate

Needs a price cut to make it truly competitive in the colour laser market; high running costs

Replacing consumables is easier on this Lexmark than any other printer here, but the high running costs may curtail this initial joy. It’ll set you back 2.2p and 13.5p per mono and colour page respectively.

Great home laser printer!

Taking the hint from another reviewer of this printer, we purchased a generic 512 MB 100-pin "desktop memory" from Newegg and it installed just fine. With the standard 128 MB internal memory, the printer now has a total of 640 MB. This saved hundreds...

The Lexmark C544dn printer has worked great for us and the duplex feature is much appreciated. Installation on my home wireless network was easy - just connected to my Apple Airport Extreme Wireless Router with network cable and used the CD-ROM to...

The printer has worked great. The build quality is definitely a little less than the HP's I've used at the office for years, so this printer is probably best for home use, or light duty at an office. Only quibble is most programs do not allow you to...

LEXMARK C544dn 26C0000 Workgroup Up to 25 ppm 1200 x 1200 dpi Color Laser Printer

I think Lexmark got it right with this printer. I wish they would have put an extra 128mb of memory in it and added photo sizes to the wizard but then I'd have absolutely nothing to complain about and have to give it 5 eggs.

This is a great Laser Printer. It prints in amazing speed and the quality of the print is excellent. Not to mention the fact that it's a duplex printer. It prints pictures well enough that I wouldn't be ashamed to use it for such, although the wizard...

the print wizard does not give a listing for photo size papers. I also wish it had come with a larger amount of memory. 128mb is ok but don't try and print backgrounds on a web page, won't work. You can buy more memory but you are already starting at a...

Consumer review (newegg.com)

After a month of use

Heavy stock (even card stock) feed is excellent, even in duplex mode. No jams so far.

I wrote the first review directly above, and after now using the printer for a month, I would like to update some of the comments I made. The Lexmark C544dn is an excellent printer, one of the best color laser printers I have used

As sold, the printer is severally lacking in "must-have" features. It's not really a $499 color laser printer. It's a ~$750-$800 color laser printer with the extra memory and second sheet tray. Without those, it really does only deserve a four egg...
