X500N

Lexmark's X500n is the least-expensive color laser MFP we've tested. Considering its good overall design and performance, it's a tempting bargain--until you have to buy your first toner cartridge.

Very inexpensive to buy Impressively sturdy paper tray

Pricey toner; yellowish, grainy photos No automatic duplexing available

Lexmark's characteristically smooth, automated installation leaves you with useful software, including ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint for OCR and Presto Page Manager for scanning. The largely wordless setup poster has big, easy-to-understand...

Lexmark X500n color laser MFP review: Lexmark X500n color laser MFP

Lexmark X500n color laser MFP

Produces high-quality prints very quickly; low print costs; network ready; built-in ADF.

No junk fax blocker or secure fax receive mode; no way to save fax groups; walk-up scanning is not enabled with USB connections; grayscale scanning needs some improvement.

Although it's missing some fax features that many small offices and work groups find useful, the Lexmark X502n produces fast, high-quality prints. This is one laser multifunction that has a lot going for it.

Lexmark X500n (4 mice)

At $499, the Lexmark X500n is a bargain for a device of its kind. Although it's slow with scanning and its copies lack some detail, this MPF is fast, easy to use, and a strong overall performer.

Speedy ; inexpensive ; scanner software is well programmed and user friendly ; produces very good text and color-document prints ; creates high-quality scans

Illustrated setup instructions are unclear ; reds are too strong in color prints ; some details don't carry over when making copies ; scanner is slow

When testing MFPs, the problem I most often come across is flawed scanner software. Testing the X500n's built-in flatbed scanner was like a breath of fresh air. The scanner utility worked smoothly, and its user-friendly interface offers flexible...

Review - Lexmark X500n networkable color laser printer/copier/scanner

Leave it to Lexmark to bring you something like this. The company that manufactures and sells inkjet printers at such an inexpensive price that they may as well just give the printer away with the purchase of an ink cartridge has now introduced the...

It's size and weight and the ongoing costs of ink refills aside, the Lexmark X500n is an excellent option for home and small office users looking to finally ditch their inkjet printers and move up to the speed and quality of laser. Just make sure you...

Lexmark X500n Multifunction Colour Laser

Going the same way as the inkjet, the humble laser is now adorning itself with multifunction finery. And why not? Here's one such model.

Lexmark X500n multifunction printer

At 35 kilos, you know the X500n means business when you prize it from its box (you'll need a hand to get it out of said box or, if not, you'll be needing an osteopath afterwards if you go it alone) and although the well made X500n is a blocky looking...

Text print quality, (relatively) fast set up, ease of use, shared network use, price

Copy quality: lacks detail, bulky, weight

A bulky device but one with that is a remarkably polished colour laser performer and at a cracking price, spoilt only by a lack of detail in copy mode and slow scanning.

Lexmark X500n colour laser multifunction printer

In testing, the X500n MFD (multifunction device) delivered solid results with its ability to print, scan, and copy. A large factor contributing to the X500n's affordability is its lack of a fax machine; fax capability is an increasingly common feature...

Although it's slow with scanning and its copies lack some detail, this MFD is fast, easy to use and a strong overall performer.

Lexmark - X500n

This is a colour, laser-based multi-function device intended for the small office or workgroup, and is priced at a very reasonable level. It's a substantial device, so much so that the A4 flatbed scanner, complete with ...

This is a low-cost colour laser all-in-one, but a few obvious corners have been cut to reach the price. The lack of a multi-purpose feed, the complicated consumables set-up and the relatively high page costs detract from the overall value proposition....

We test Lexmark's X500n colour laser multifunction printer.

Text quality, ease of use, (relatively) fast set up, shared network use, price

Copy quality: lacks detail, bulky, weight

The Lexmark X500n is an affordable yet powerful colour laser multifunction (MFP) scanner, printer, and copier with network capability that will make a great small or home office work horse. It lacks fax functionality (one of the ways Lexmark kept the...
