BenQ W5000 DLP Projector Review

If you think you're having a hard time deciding which projector is the best, think about my job... I actually get to see, use, and calibrate most of them and yet I still have a hard time determining

Support for anamorphic aspect ratio ; Excellent post-calibration performance ; Great value given street pricing

Anemic 1.2x zoom lens ; No horizontal lens shift ; Poor out-of-the-box performance ; Overscan anomaly with SD material

BenQ W5000

Contrast-rich picture., High resolution., High-quality video processing, including 24p., Electronic lens-shift.

The user cannot completely deactivate overscan., Factory setup has some color errors.

The BenQ W5000 gives you a lot of projector for the price. The "Dynamic Black" mode renders an impressive contrast ratio, with visible improvements in depth and dynamism. It's easy to forgive the slight deviations in an otherwise natural-looking color...

Review: BenQ W5000 DLP Projector

With excellent blacks and sharpness, not to mention a great price, the BenQ W5000 rivals several more expensive projectors.

If you have been reading our reviews you’ll find that the important differences which affect picture quality are getting harder to distinguish and lots of manufacturers are really getting it right. I guess that's a good thing, since negatives of late...

BenQ W5000 Home Theater Video Projector Review

Weighing a hefty 21 pounds (9.6kg), and measuring in at W-19.4” x H-7.1” x D-16.5” (492 x 180 x 420 mm), the W5000 is a rather large and bulky unit that could certainly be classified as an installation unit. While it may suffer in the portability...

Utilizes full, 1080P HD resolution, for the ultimate home theatre experience ; Exceptional contrast ratio (advertised as 10,000:1) leaves the competition weak in the knees ; Blacks are black, whites are white, and everything in-between looks vivid...

While projector is big and bulky and heavy, it's also strong and sturdy, capable of delivering professional performance at consumer-valued pricing ; Iris repositioning sound during picture preset mode changes can be a little distracting at first,...

With images that offer exceptional contrast and razor sharp goodness, BenQ has done well to raise the stakes in the home theatre projector market. All this, and I haven’t even touched on how quiet this unit is during operation, or how it...

BenQ W5000

Review continues below this advertisement

Very sharp image ; Very good out-of-the-box color accuracy in Cinema mode (better than most) ; Brighter than most, in best mode ; Brighter than most, in brightest mode ; Excellent shadow detail ; Very good black levels ; Fairly quiet ; Image has good...

Image noise is significantly worse than most other competing projectors ; Limited range on the zoom lens, hinders placement flexibility ; A rather large projector, but that won't bother most folks ; Only 2 HDMI inputs (I still think 3 should be...

The BenQ W5000 is, but for the image noise issue, a projector that certainly "coulda been a contender", for best $3000ish projector. Even so, it is a serious competitor, with few equals at that price

BenQ W5000 Review

This 1080p single-chip DLP projector delivers an extremely sharp, high contrast image, though it has a greater amount of digital noise than other, similar projectors on the market.

BenQ W5000 Full HD DLP Projector

If you're after a Full HD DLP projector, BenQ's W5000 ticks most of the right boxes.

The presence of the noise we've just described effectively means you have a choice to make regarding the W5000. If your image tastes are driven predominantly by sharpness, detail and vibrancy, then at £1,359.25 the W5000 is just about as big a...
