InFocus IN83

The biggest difference is that the IN83 sports the new Darkchip4 DLP processor (perhaps the first to ship under $10,000), while the IN82 has inside it the widely used Darkchip3. I don't know the full technical differences, but apparently it's enough...

Extremely bright home theater projector, both in "best" and "brightest" modes ; Outstanding color accuracy after calibration (in part thanks to starting with better color accuracy than most competitors, to start with) ; ISF Certified ; Darkchip4 DLP...

Limited placement flexibility due to lack of lens shift and limited, 1.2:1 zoom lens ; Still uses their proprietary MD-1A connector (a DVI adapter is included), a regular DVI or HDMI would be preferred. (there is one standard HDMI port as well) ; While...

Congratulations to InFocus - they've nailed it this time! If your budget allows, you definitely need to place the InFocus IN83 on the shortest of your short lists

InFocus IN83 home theatre projector

The InFocus IN83 is a 1080p home theatre projector using a 7 segment DLP colour wheel. In conjunction with the newest DarkChip4 video processor, this ...

DarkChip4 video processor means contrast and natural colour are fantastic, high brightness, crisp detail

Pricey, no adjustable lens shift, limited zoom, no dynamic iris

If you can find a suitable location to set it up, the InFocus IN83 home theatre projector produces crisp, detailed 1080p images with great natural colour after a small amount of tweaking.

InFocus IN83 review

The first DLP projector with TI's eagerly-awaited DarkChip 4 technology is finally here.

Groundbreaking black levels and colour fidelity for this price bracket

Runs quite noisily ; A bit fiddly to set up ; Limited zoom ; Rainbow evident on high-contrast subjects

A stunning projector, offering great value and an unrivalled performance

InFocus IN83

InFocus had to raise the bar, and it has superbly

Sleek styling; simple to set up and use; superb, colourful image; great detail, three-dimensionality and realism

Perhaps just out of reach, pricewise, for some

InFocus Play Big IN83

The InFocus IN83 works beautifully out of the box, delivering smooth, rich pictures. That said, it fails to sizzle, plagued by a mild black crush despite a new DarkChip4 engine.

Clean, smooth and film-like pictures ; Accurate primary and natural colours ; Unique swivel stand ; Handy touchlight remote ; Three 1080p24-enabled inputs

Black crush ; Noisy even at low power ; Chassis lacks on-board controls ; No lens cover ; A bit chunky

Late into the full-HD race, InFocus is definitely catching up with the release of the Play Big IN83. The on-board DarkChip 4 engine may have failed to sizzle, but this is still quite a solid-performing 1080p DLP set. If you've already set your sights...

InFocus had to raise the bar, and it has – superbly. A desirable piece of projection tech that fully justifies the outlay.
