Samsung SP-A900B review: Samsung SP-A900B

Samsung SP-A900B

Extremely accurate color including spot-on color decoding for both SD and HD; nearly perfect primary/secondary colors and linear grayscale tracking; superb black level and shadow detail performance; bright for its class enabling it to adequately drive...

While improved, black level still not as deep as the best LCoS and LCD projectors; at its price, I expect horizontal lens shift as well as electronic zoom and focus.

The new chip in Samsung's SP-A900B helps it to outperform every projector in its class, including its step-down Joe Kane-designed brother, and to compete favorably against significantly more-expensive three-chip DLP projectors.

Samsung SP-A900B Single-Chip 1080p DLP Projector

What if a videophile were given total control over the design, production and distribution of a projector? You would expect a high degree of color accuracy, great optics, easy calibration for different screens and environments, no unnecessary features,...

I was very impressed with the performance of the SP-A900B. All the material I viewed was reproduced with accurate and consistent quality. The generous light output makes this projector suitable for a wide variety of environments. The near-perfect color...

Hands On: Samsung SP-A900B Projector

There's nothing to complain about. A die-hard videophile might cite its lack of motorized lens adjustments and price, but that's nitpicking.

Samsung SP-A900B DLP Projector

In these days of increasingly improved LCD and LCOS projectors, new DLP models seem to be few and far between. Some manufacturers have cut back on their premium DLP projector offerings (Sharp), and some have eliminated them altogether (Yamaha).

One other concern is DLP rainbows. I can't come down too hard on the Samsung here; this is an artifact that's common to one degree or another in all single-chip DLP displays that use a color wheel. On the Samsung, most likely because of its brightness,...

Samsung SP-A900B Review

To the videophile, the SP-A900B is a dream come true.

The latest collaborative effort between Samsung and Joe Kane is a true videophile's projector, optimized for pure home cinema use in a totally light-controlled environment. At $12,999, it is not inexpensive by any stretch of the imagination. Its...

PLAYBACK 23: Samsung SP-A900B 1080p DLP projector

Higher contrast and anamorphic widescreen compatibility sets Samsung's step-up SPA-900B apart from the still-available SPA-800B.

Samsung SP-A800B and SP-A900B Reviews

One of the most exciting ways to watch a movie is in a dedicated home theater room with a front projection system.  While this is an expensive proposition to setup, both for light and sound isolation, I find it to be consistently more pleasing than the...
