ViewSonic Precision Pro8100 LCD Projector Review

It strikes me as odd any time I see a projector of any significant price lacking features such as power Zoom & Focus and Lens Shift. With higher cost projectors I've become an unfortunate victim of

Motorized Zoom/Focus ; Motorized Lens Shift ; Beautiful enclosure ; Super Quiet ; Excellent backlit remote

Slow Auto Iris (no Manual mode) ; Minimal Horizontal Lens Shift (10%) ; No HD Noise Reduction ; Convoluted Menu System

Viewsonic Pro8100

Updated 3/24/2010 - Much has changed. the Pro8100 is still out on the market, almost 2 years later. The huge difference though, was that, when launched, the Pro8100 sold for almost $5000 and was only sold by local installing dealers. Apparently that...

Brighter than most 1080p projectors in "best" mode ; Slightly brighter than the average 1080p projector in "brightest" mode ; Very good overall picture performance after calibration ; Good selection of inputs (including 2 HDMI 1.3 inputs with Deep...

Dynamic iris action is perhaps the most noticeable of any 1080p projector reviewed so far. Its "yo-yo" action will be a slight annoyance to some, and will be a deal breaker for most of those who are highly critical of image quality ; Needs basic...

Bright, sharp, good shadow detail, respectable but hardly exceptional black levels, and a good warranty, which is not a bad place to start. Excellent overall color and image richness after a proper calibration

ViewSonic Pro8100 Review

High lumen output and solid color performance make the 8100 a competent performer for HDTV and video games, while quiet operation and good connectivity make it easy to use.

The Pro8100 is a solid projector and a good first effort from Viewsonic as far as serious home theater projectors are concerned. Higher than average lumen output, a sharp clean HD image, and vibrant color make it a competent performer for HDTV and...

ViewSonic Precision Pro8100

It's hip to be square

Huge array of advanced features and controls, excellent image clarity and colour fidelity, quiet operation

It's one of the biggest space-hogs we've seen

The home theatre projector has fallen on hard times of late, but don't let that stop you from considering this exceptional model. Both user-friendly and feature rich, it delivers an incredible high-def movie experience for the asking price. Ignore the...

ViewSonic Pro8100 Full HD LCD Projector

Can this Full HD LCD projector be ViewSonic's finest home cinema effort yet? John breaks out his 140in screen to find out.

Don't, whatever you do, let the fact that we finished the review with a little run of negatives put you off giving the ViewSonic Pro8100 serious consideration. Its good points outweigh its bad ones very comfortably indeed, and its unprecedented...

Viewsonic PRO8100 review

ViewSonic finally gets serious about home cinema with its Pro8100 projector.

Superb colour fidelity and detail ; Ultra-quiet

Blacks can look hollow ; Auto-iris can distract

A fantastic projector with plenty to like - excellent picture quality is matched by an impressively low running noise

ViewSonic Pro8100

It's a big ol' unit, but relatively easy on the eye; get past that bulk and you'll find serious picture quality on offer

Entirely painless set-up ; excellent specification ; bright, vivid colours ; impressive detail levels

Not the darkest blacks ; the handling of the toughest motion isn't perfect

ViewSonic Precision Pro8100 projector

With the cost of going to the cinema rising, does it make sense to bring the cinema to your home? We sit down with a bag of popcorn and the latest home cinema projector from ViewSonic to find out. Okay so it's not the smallest or most practical...

Picture quality

Large

Okay so it's not the smallest or most practical projector you've seen, and at almost £3000 (RRP is £2899) it won't be the cheapest. However, if you've got a white wall, enjoy your movies or video games and want to bring the cinema into your home this...

ViewSonic Pro8100

The ViewSonic Pro8100 is an excellent 1080p projector, which features a Silicon Optix HQV video processor and support for 24p.

Excellent processing capabilities ; Zero "flyscreen" effect ; Detailed, colourful images ; Quiet ; Motorised lens shift and zoom

Black levels suffer with iris mode off ; Huge

We also tested the projector's capabilities displaying a PC desktop, and this presented no problem. We were able to view up to a 1,980x1,080 resolution with no scaling or scanning issues.
