FiiO E5 Headphone Amplifier Review

Providing more power to boost the sound quality of your personal audio gear: that is the promise of the FiiO E5 Amplifier. Two of your Technoodling editors took the FiiO E5 Amplifier through some gruelling tests and this is what they found out.

Works well as a volume booster ; With the right gear, it makes the music sound better ; Reasonably priced

Is actually a bit cumbersome to use. Too many cables ; Takes a lot of effort (Choice of gear, audio file quality, etc.) to use properly

While the iPod Touch made for a good music player for the FiiO E5, my HTC Sensation proved to be somewhat “incompatible” with the E5. Even when using the V-Moda Crossfade, the supposed improvement made by the E5 was barely audible.

FiiO E5 Headphone Amplifier

You can't judge the FiiO E5 headphone amplifier by its size alone.

20-hour battery life ; Significantly improves sound in many setups ; Cheap

No auto switch-off function ; Results vary depending on setup ; Ships with low-grade connector cable

Solid audio output for such a ludicrously cheap headphone amp. While your mileage will vary depending on your DAP/PMP and 'phones, it's well worth giving the E5 a try if you find your existing setup lacks power.

MP3s sounded almost like FLACs

Made my Philips SHE9701 & Grado iGi sounded much sweet than I used to hear. A Bang-For-Buck for everyone. Tested it with some speakers (just for fun). Sounded awesome on Altec Lansing VS4621 & Scythe KroCraft.
