Onkyo TX-SR674

This 7.1-channel A/V receiver offers HDMI video and multichannel audio switching for two HDMI sources and converts analog video sources to the HDMI output. The Audyssey 2EQ automatic calibration is the most advanced autosetup ever offered by Onkyo....

No phono input.

The Onkyo TX-SR674's stellar feature set and first-rate sound quality put it the top tier of midprice HDMI A/V receivers.

Onkyo TX-SR674 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver

In my “The Long View” column for The Perfect Vision Issue 70, I suggested that advanced digital signal processing techniques could, in the future, help resolve complicated room acoustics and speaker equalization problems. Well, now that I've auditioned...

The partially lighted remote was a model of clarity and simplicity. I would observe, too, that the Audyssey 2EQ system made the receiver sound so fundamentally right that I was much less inclined than I ordinarily would be to make on-the-fly tuning...

Onkyo TX-SR674 home theater receiver

Onkyo offers a high performance 1080p-capable HDMI-switching home theater receiver, complete with analog video upconversion to HDMI at a price that's easy to swallow.

I enjoyed my time with the TX-SR674 receiver. The simplicity of its operation and the flexibility of its inputs and outputs (including HDMI upconversion of analog video sources) allowed me to easily connect multiple devices, as well as swap in and out...

Onkyo TX-SR674E review

Trying to fight its way to the front of the AV amp crowd

Impressive features ; Great value ; Decent sound

Not particularly stylish

Ignore the slightly clunky looks - this receiver packs a sonic wallop, flexibility and great performance into its frame

Onkyo TX-SR674

The Onkyo TX-SR674's stellar feature set and first-rate sound quality put it in the top tier of midprice HDMI A/V receivers.

HDMI video and multichannel audio switching for two HDMI sources ; Upconverts analog video sources to the HDMI output ; Automatic setup is Onkyo's most advanced ever ; Optional iPod dock

No phono input

Lastly, CD sound, in plain old stereo, was also superb, and on the Persuasions Sing U2 disc, the TX-SR674 projected a three-dimensional soundstage. It was so good we never even bothered listening to the music in Dolby Pro Logic IIx surround. The...

Ignore the slightly clunky looks - this receiver packs a sonic wallop, flexibility and great performance into its frameDon't judge a receiver by its cover. The Onkyo TX-SR674E may not be winning any prizes in the style stakes.

Flexible and versatile, Good audio

Average looks

For the price you could hardly ask for a more capable all-rounder

Onkyo TX-SR674 A/V Receiver

I give Onkyo full credit for turning me into the home theatre enthusiast that I am today. That's because the first great A/V receiver that I ever owned was a mid-range 5.1-channel Onkyo. Naturally then, I got quite excited when I was asked to evaluate...

Onkyo TX-SR674

I bought the 674 for it's 'one HDMI cable' and it's 1080 capabilities. Sadly, not even the on-screen set-up menus appear without Component cables - the 674 only outputs the on-screen menus at 480I at 60Hz and 576i at 50Hz, whilst most TV sets (new...

Great Sound. Really great sound ; Autosetup for speakers is easy and works very well (once the on-screen menus are working) ; Very good support from the Importer. Without them, the unit would have been returned to it's place of purchase

HDMI looks like an add-on ; Setup is 'onscreen' for video, but on the unit for audio ; No obvious 'video out' set up screen (difficult work-around) ; Inadaquate support for HDMI on-screen menus - see above ; Manual is difficult/impossible to...

Onkyo TX-SR674

It doesn't have upscaling. I wish the reviewer would clarify what is meant by upconverting. It is really misleading and I think it should be called either de-interlacing or upscaling. HDMI without upscaling is not much use.

The automatic set up via the microphone was fantastic. I didn't need to adjust any of the settings. Sound quality overall was very good. Overall a very competent AV amp with features to keep you busy for hours...

Sound Quality ; Video Upscaling ; Ease of set up
