Performance

Onkyo TX-SR602

7.1-channel A/V receiver; full autosetup; bass and treble controls plus five-band equalizer; above-average FM performance; flexible Zone 2 operation; excellent remote.

Inaccurate and awkwardly implemented autosetup calibration; cannot upconvert composite video or S-Video to component.

Onkyo's midprice A/V receiver offers state-of-the-art performance and features--as long as you don't need autosetup.

As $500 receivers go, the Onkyo TX-SR602 is a fairly large, well-appointed unit that consumes 17 inches of shelf depth and weighs a solid 32.6 pounds. The handsome receiver is available in silver or black finishes.

Spectacular, for the price

The 602 rocks my socks. Besides all the specs that you can already read about, the 602 is input friendly and makes a great zone 2 receiver. Here's what the specs don't tell you that I noticed: Pros: -Crystal clear audio through all sources. Includes a...

Crystal clear audio through all sources. Includes a subwoofer crossover ; 5 Video inputs - conveniently labeled "Video 1" through "Video 4", and "DVD", so that you can connect what you want, where you want it, without connecting to a mislabled input ;...

Outs. S-video and composite video inputs are converted and output at both monitor outs, but not at the video 1 and video 2 outs. I.E., an S-video input is only output through S-video outputs, and same for composite ; Also, there is no Component video...
