Onkyo TX-SR608 Receiver First Look

Well, if you haven't noticed the flood gates have opened. Manufacturers are falling all over themselves to get on the 3D bandwagon. TVs, Blu-ray players, and discs have all hit the market touting their 3D. No matter that there is very little true 3D...

Onkyo has long been known as a feature leader in the receiver department. They certainly are looking to maintain that reputation with the TX-SR608. While the feature-set is a bit different from other new offerings at the same price point, it definitely...

Onkyo TX-SR608 A/V Receiver

Many tributaries feed the mighty Mississippi. South of the Twin Cities, the Minnesota River gushes in. In Wisconsin, it is joined by the St. Croix River, the Black River, the La Crosse River, the Root River, and the Wisconsin River. Then come the Rock,...

All of the above might lead you to believe that the AVR can operate many of these options (biamp, height, width, back surround, zone two) at the same time. Although it has nine sets of speaker terminals, it only has seven amp channels. However, you can...

Onkyo TX-SR608 review

Home cinema amplifier Product of the Year, Awards 2010. Supremely competitive and capable product in a particularly cut-throat field

Refined, open and spacious surround field ; brilliant tonal balance ; tons of features for the money

Not quite as attacking as some rivals

Home cinema amplifier Product of the Year, Awards 2010. With sonic subtlety and 7.2 support, the ’608 is a real class-leader in a competitive field

Onkyo TX-SR608 review

Onkyo is first past the post with a 3D-capable AV receiver for the masses. Budget rivals beware

Big, fast and dynamic sound ; Good video scaling ; v1.4a HDMIs

No networking or USB ; No 7.1 analogue in/out

A great 3D capable AV receiver that the competition will have a hard time beating on price and features

Onkyo TX-SR608 AV Receiver Review

AVForums takes a look at Onkyo's latest entry-level AV Receiver

Good up-to-date feature set ; 3D video compatible ; Enjoyable movie performance ; Quite powerful for the money ; Easy to set-up ; Cool and quiet-running ; Good value for money

Doesn't quite meet all expectations ; Less assured with music playback ; Doesn't suffer poor sources ; Works best with easy to drive speakers ; Video processing adds little value

Missing Accessories and Remote

Look Nice. Box came from UPS without external damages. The box tape seemed to be from the manufacturer, but the accessory tray is empty, and the remote controller is also missing. Just a bare receiver

Missing Accessory bag and remote control and batteries

Great Reciever

Keep enough air flow around the unit and you will be happy. I currently have the unit in cabinet and it seems ok I do check it often to make sure it is not overheating, also I do not run the unit hard so it does not generate near as much heat as it could.

6 hdmi inputs (5 rear, 1 front), 100 watts per channel. 7.2 outputs. video up converting from all inputs to hdmi output

not really a con but unit does run hot. (what receiver doesn't). 2nd zone only runs on analog inputs. (also not really an issue since it is only two speakers, kinda annoying that you have to run more wires though)

Deserves high ratings

I considered the higher end Network Receivers but the reviews indicate they are jacks of all trades and masters of none. With the money saved I have ordered an Ion based HTPC that will be able to perform network functions better than a receiver.

The 5 star reviews previous to mine are accurate. This receiver "just works". Multiple inputs, plays well with my other components, very good remote that controls my Samsung LED and my Cablevision box. Reasonable price on sale

HDMI pass through is not ideal on my setup. I cannot just turn on the TV with the receiver off and view cable tv. What works for me is to have HDMI control on / power control on (setup 7-3). The receiver and tv turn on together... I can then turn off...
