Sony SMP-N200 review: Sony SMP-N200

Sony SMP-N200

Sony's ; streaming-media box supports Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant, Vudu, and Pandora. It's also DLNA-compliant, so it can stream media from your home network, including Xvid and MKV files. The external design is also considerably improved over...

The user interface is poorly designed for a streaming-media box, especially when browsing movies via cover art that is too small to read. Cover art isn't supported at all when browsing music on your home network. The video search doesn't hit any of the...

Sony's SMP-N200 streaming-media box packs a lot of functionality, but it's hampered by a subpar user interface.

Sony SMP-N200 Streaming Player Preview

At CEDIA 2011 this year, we got a glimpse of Sony Electronics' new SMP-N200 Streaming Player. What sets this apart is that it adds 3D streaming capability (for compatible movies) and TONS of streaming

Sony SMP-N200 Media Player

Testing the Sony SMP-N200 made me consider how far network media players have come in the past few years. Sony's base model, an upgraded version of its first player, the SMP-N100, handles most of the basic media streaming options with ease. It plays...

Sony SMP-N200 Streaming Media Player

Sony's steaming media player, the SMP-N200, seems to be quite the product. The new device gives users access to a huge variety of content providers. HomeTheaterReview.com reviewer Adrienne Maxwell takes a look at the features.

The SMP-N200 includes access to the hottest Web apps, including Netflix, Amazon, VUDU, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Pandora, and more. It also gives you access to exclusive Sony services and many smaller, niche options ; The box supports a 1080p resolution and...

The remote lacks a full QWERTY keyboard for easier text input ; The user interface is not as clean and intuitive as some of its competitors ; Sony doesn't currently have an Apps store to customize your services

On paper, the Sony SMP-N200 has it all--an extensive range of Web services, personal media streaming with good file-format support, analog outputs for compatibility with any TV, a smartphone control app with a QWERTY keyboard, integrated WiFi, and...

Sony SMP-N200 review

Easy to use and set up ; plenty of popular streaming services ; easy access to files

Doesn't support FLAC files ; browsing files is list-heavy ; lean sonic character

The N200 is a competent, easy to use device offering a wide range of content

Sony SMP-N200 media player review

Take the internet TV capabilities of a recent Bravia flatscreen television and shove them into a little box (that's operated with one of the coolest-looking handsets ever to grace a multimedia player) and you get Sony's latest entry into this...

Integrated Wi-Fi; intuitive user interface; plenty of online content available; affordable

Web browser of limited value; no ‘net radio; some codecs not supported

Consumer review (cnet.com)

good and bad in one small package

I purchased the Sony after looking at several other products (Roku and Western Digital). What sold me was the price and the features, including the wired/wireless option. Overall it is great to have connection to the internet through my TV/stereo, but...

-easy to setup -somewhat easy to use -easy connection to some great internet content (e.g. Pandora, Netflix, Slacker Radio, YouTube) -wired and wireless connectivity options

-interface - keyboard input is incredibly tedious and icons/text are too small on many websites -occasionally no wireless connection (used with new router that works well with other wireless devices)(good that can connect a LAN cable when needed)
