Yamaha RX-N600 review: Yamaha RX-N600

Yamaha RX-N600

The Yamaha RX-N600 is a 6.1-channel A/V receiver that offers connectivity to Ethernet home networks, USB storage devices, and (with an optional dock) the Apple iPod. It's also XM ready and supports component-video conversion from composite and S-Video.

There are no HDMI jacks, and the receiver lacks an automatic setup option. You can't configure the list of available Internet radio stations, and the USB playback didn't work with some of the thumbdrives we tried.

Digital music fans will find a lot to like about the Yamaha RX-N600, but its dearth of HDMI options will frustrate HDTV owners.

Digital music fans will find a lot to like about the Yamaha RX-N600, but its dearth of HDMI options will frustrate HDTV owners.

Connectivity to Ethernet home networks, USB storage devices, and (with an optional dock) the Apple iPod ; Supports component-video conversion from composite and S-Video

No HDMI jacks ; Lacks an automatic setup option ; Can't configure the list of available Internet radio stations ; USB playback didn't work with some of the thumbdrives we tried

The 5.1-channel surround mix on The Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East SACD was more successful. The band's music was impressively dynamic and the disc transported us to the legendary rock theatre's acoustics. Our only quibble was bass definition,...

Great sound, but alittle lacking on features

When I purchased this receiver, I had very high hopes, but some of that was let down by having the features you couldn't use. This receiver was the first NET receiver, but it seemed experimental. The features weren't thought out before making this...

Love the sound of this receiver, the access to the sources, easy to set up

No HDMI's, USB doesn't seem to work, but that's it.

Yamaha RX-N600

This receiver works great for my needs. I wanted a single unit that would provide solid sound, and connect to my home network to play shared MP3 files from a Windows PC. I also wanted Internet radio capability, and there are hundreds if not...

Huge quantity of available Internet radio stations ; Plays shared music files and playlists from PC ; Very good sound. Rocks the house for DVD playback

Limited user interface for selection of Internet radio stations and selection of MP3 libraries shared from Windows workstations on network

Pretty Good receiver. When it was purchased it was not compatible with WM 11 but the firmware update the company emailed me worked on the first try.

Great Sounds, worked with my Sandisk titanium usb drive, on screen display made my set up a snap

Remote. Long delay for the firmware update since wmc 2.0 was unavailable

Yamaha RX-N600

From my previous experience with Yamaha AV equipment the RX-N600 is poor. I think there are better units out there. The only reason I purchased this model was for the Ethernet connectivity which at best is pretty pathetic - can only view 8 titles at a...

Good sound ; 2nd Zone output ; Internet radio connection via LAN

Only 6.1 output ; Can't get Lan interface working with WMP11 ; No backlit remote

Yamaha RX-N600

I was disappointed with the receivers internet radio navigation and ability to play songs from the pc.

Sounds great

I agree with this reviewer. I am returning my RX-N600 receiver. I purchased it to enable the streaming of songs from my computer and internet radio. The streaming from the pc does not work. You can see your pc from the receiver but no songs are...
