Yamaha RX-V659

The Yamaha RX-V659 is a well-equipped midrange 7.1-channel receiver. In addition to being one of the first XM-ready products to offer compatibility with XM HD Surround, the RX-V659 is distinguished by an optional iPod dock, an easy-to-use autosetup,...

The XM HD Surround didn't produce a significant performance advantage over Dolby or DTS Surround. There are no HDMI inputs or outputs, and the XM and iPod features require purchasing additional accessories.

As long you don't need HDMI compatibility, the Yamaha RX-V659 A/V receiver offers good sound quality, a full panoply of features, and a solid value.

Yamaha RX-V659 Receiver Review

The Yamaha RX-V659 sets a benchmark in receiver performance in its price class. From its raw power, and audiophile performance, and more, it remains one of the best values in its class.

Yamaha RX-V659 7.1-Channel Audio/Video Receiver

A year ago we reviewed Yamaha's RX-V657 receiver and were so impressed by its performance that we gave it our Budget AVR of the Year award. But recently we learned Yamaha was replacing the RX-V657 with a more full-featured receiver called the RX-V659....

Though the RX-V659 may not be quite the sonic “giant killer” the RX-V657 was, it will appeal to listeners who prize its flexible surround sound modes, smooth sound, natural warmth and big-hearted dynamics. TPV

Small in price, BIG in quality

Excaliburn did a fantastic job on describing the attributes of this receiver, so there is no need for me to get technical here.

Wow! What a bargain!

I bought my V659 on-line about a month ago from an authorized dealer. Including S&H, it was less than $300 for a B-stock unit. If it has any cosmetic defects, I can't find them. My unit is black, not silver as pictured.

Great programmability, comes with mic for auto set-up, good OSD, optical inputs solve

Amp chipset not as quiet as discrete components, no tone controls on the remote

Better in Black! Yamaha's Bargain Receiver

Although the photo here is of this Yamaha 7.1 Receiver is silver, it looks bad in black. By bad, I mean good of course. I was frankly very surprised for all I got for such a low price. Back when I bought this, it was on sale for $399.00, and I...
