Umax Astra 6700

This affordable scanner is fairly fast, but it's held back by flat image quality and other shortcomings.

The relatively speedy Umax Astra 6700 can scan both photos and film, but other inexpensive models offer better image quality and more robust features.

Umax Astra 6700

The Astra 6700 is an inexpensive, 2400-dpi, flatbed scanner that connects to your Mac via USB 2.0. It does a good job of scanning photos and other reflective media.

Inexpensive ; includes transparency unit

Scans using the transparency adapter were noisy ; included Mac software can't output standard 48-bit scans

Reflective scans of photographs and test charts came out well. Our standard Picnic test image was a little bit on the red side and some of the shadow detail was lost-but it was really not bad for a low-end scanner. The transparency scans were not quite...
