This solar-powered security cam fails to outshine rivals

Despite its neat solar panel accessory, Ring's Stick Up Cam has fewer features than our favorite DIY security cameras.

It's weatherproofed for outside use and you can power it via its built-in rechargeable battery, the included USB adapter or a neat solar panel accessory.

Audio quality was spotty during testing. You have to pay for event-based cloud storage. Its 80-degree field of view doesn't cover very much ground and the live video stream often looked grainy in testing.

The Ring Stick Up Cam's flexible power sources give it real appeal, but other standalone DIY cameras offer more for less.

Ring Stick Up Cam

The Ring Stick Up Cam is a wireless outdoor security camera that installs in minutes and interacts with other smart home devices, but has a narrow field of view and requires a cloud subscription to view recorded video.

Sharp daytime video. Very easy to install. Completely wireless. Works other connected devices.

Narrow field of view. Requires cloud subscription to view recorded video. Two-way audio could be clearer.

Conclusions With the Ring Stick Up Cam you can monitor outdoor activity and view recorded video of events that are triggered by the camera's motion detector. It's completely wireless, takes minutes to install, and offers sharp and colorful 720p daytime...

Ring Stick Up Cam Review: Solar-powered security

There's a tricky balance to be struck when you're designing an outdoor security camera: do you go with the convenience of battery power, or the performance of wired? Ring 's Stick Up Cam attempts to straddle the two, offering the flexibility of a...

Ring Stick Up Cam review: A companion camera for the Ring Video Doorbell

The weatherproof outdoor camera lets you keep an eye on the rest of your property.

Customizable motion-detection zones ; Live stream includes intercom feature ; 720p video

Narrow 80-degree field of view ; Can't view surveillance video clips without cloud subscription

The Stick Up Cam is an attractive outdoor camera that probably makes the most sense if you’re already invested in a Ring Video Doorbell. It’s easy to see how a few Stick Up Cams around the outside of your home with a video doorbell on your porch would...

Ring Stick Up Cam review: Keep an eye on your home 24/7

Home security from just about anywhere. An easy and simple way to keep your eyes on home 24/7 with the Ring Stick Up Cam.

Ring makes excellent products well worth the investment and the Ring Stick Up Cam is no exception. I recommend it if you’re looking for a security camera solution, but you’ll have to decide if the cloud services are worth the extra monthly charge.

Ring Stick Up Cam and Solar Panel combo provides peace of mind

At a glance 6-12 month battery (without solar panel) Two-way audio Infrared LEDs for night vision Pros Easy to install, with most tools included Wireless design means more mounting options Cons No way to schedule quiet hours Cloud recording will cost...

Easy to install, with most tools included ; Wireless design means more mounting options

No way to schedule quiet hours ; Cloud recording will cost you an extra $30/year

The combo of the $50 Solar Panel and the $199 Stick Up Cam is a powerful one, in that it takes away one of the biggest drawbacks of the wireless design by eliminating the need for charging. Ring says just a few hours per day of direct sun exposure will...

Ring Stick Up Cam (wired) review: Maybe don’t put a Ring on it

The Ring Stick Up Cam is a versatile and high-quality security camera but subscription prices are high

Very versatile ; Good-quality footage ; POE is genuinely useful

Hefty subscription costs are basically essential

That’s a real shame, because there’s really nothing too negative to say other than that. The Ring Stick Up Cam is a neatly designed, versatile product with a good app and high-quality footage. Just beware that to get the most out of it, you’ll need to...

Ring Stick Up Cam review
