With Alta, Fitbit finally made a stylish fitness band

The Alta shows Fitbit has learned enough about design to compete with more stylish rivals. It's also a lesson in how fewer features can sometimes lead to a better product.

Fitbit's most stylish and comfortable tracker yet ; Battery lasts five days ; Automatic activity tracking ; Wide variety of band options

No stair or heart rate tracking ; Some bands are difficult to put on

In the end, the Alta is a big leap forward for Fitbit in terms of design, yet it's in some ways a step back in functionality. But for a company that's mostly been focused on technology over looks for the past few years, that's probably a wise compromise.

Fitbit Alta review: An activity tracker you won't be embarrassed to wear

The Fitbit Alta is a stylish fitness tracker with swappable bands, basic phone notifications and week-long battery.

The Fitbit Alta is a stylish fitness tracker with swappable bands, basic phone notifications and week-long battery life. The new "Move" alerts bring something new. Fitbit's software is still one of our favorites, and has the largest social base as well.

There's no heart-rate sensor, and it can't be worn in the shower. The tracker is expensive for what it can do and so are the accessory straps. The display is difficult to see outdoors and is susceptible to scratches, and notifications are hard to read.

While ultimately a more stylish (but heart-rate free) version of the older Charge HR, the Fitbit Alta is a winning fitness tracker with solid style appeal.

Fitbit Alta review: better design, same technology

A Fitbit, for better or worse, looks like a Fitbit. For the past seven years Fitbit's product design has skewed toy-like, friendly, utilitarian. A Fitbit won't be mistaken for jewelry; it's not...

More fashionable Fitbit ; Auto-tracks exercise and sleep ; Week-long battery life

Tap-screen display ; No heart-rate sensors ; No software leaps since 2015

Fitbit Alta

The Alta is Fitbit's sleekest, slimmest wrist-worn fitness tracker yet, but if you don't care about looks you can get more functionality for nearly the same price.

Slim design. Swappable bands. Accurate fitness stats. Delivers idle alerts and smartphone notifications.

Sometimes unresponsive. Display is tough to see in direct sunlight. No heart rate monitoring, GPS, or stair climbing. Not waterproof.

Comparisons and Conclusions Fitbit currently has six wrist-worn fitness trackers in its lineup —four of which are priced similarly —so which is the right one for you? If you're a marathoner, you're going to want to stick with the $250 GPS-enabled...

Fitbit Alta Fitness Wristband Review

Fitbit's Alta fitness wristband looks to the lower-end of the market, with a sleek and user-friendly device.

Fitbit finally gets design with the Alta sports tracker

For me, fitness trackers are all about motivation. I used to go for a run every single day, and then quit, and then went to yoga every single day, and then I did nothing every single day. Now, a little older and a little more sore, I find myself...

The Alta is clearly a step in the right direction for Fitbit, both by way of proactive software and style. But a little tweaking — primarily on the display — could make a big difference in user experience.

Photos: The stylish Fitbit Blaze and Fitbit Alta fitness trackers

Fitbit does not intend to compromise style or functionality, and the Fitbit Blaze with its smartwatch form factor, together with the Fitbit Alta and its bangle-type construction exemplifies that.

Fitbit Alta review: The perfect Fitbit for almost everyone

Step counters, or pedometers as they're more formally know, have existed for centuries – most people probably remember getting one alongside a box of cereal they purchased sometime in the past – but it's really with the introduction of the Fitbit...

Great design ; Affordable price ; Perfect feature set

Software could be better ; No heart rate monitor

Fitbit Alta review

Fitbit has finally made an attractive wearable with the Alta. What else does this new fitness tracker have to offer? Get all the details in our full Fitbit Alta review!

Sleek, modern design ; Silicone strap is very comfortable ; 5-day battery life ; Accurate step and sleep tracking ; Affordable price point ; Companion app is easy to use

Interchangeable bands are pricey ; Silicone band can be difficult to put on ; No waterproofing ; Charging cable is short and awkward to use

If you're looking for an attractive, affordable fitness tracker that can handle the basics with little to no problems at all, you should consider the Fitbit Alta. Hardcore gym rats should look elsewhere.
