Meta Watch Meta M1 review: the watchmaker's smartwatch

It's been a busy year for the smartwatch. In just the past few months, we've seen numerous smartwatches from Pebble, LG, Motorola, Samsung, and countless companies you've probably never heard of....

Distinctive design ; Long battery life ; Premium materials

Distinctive design ; Limited functions ; Terrible backlight

Is the Meta M1 smartwatch a sexier-looking smartwatch for everyone?

In a world of ever-multiplying smartwatches, can the stylish but simple Meta M1 stand out based on looks alone? We wore one for a week to find out.

The Meta M1 smartwatch has an attractive, aggressive design, works with Android and iOS, lasts multiple days on a single charge, and can filter notifications from your phone. It's also visible in bright sunlight.

No touchscreen, no apps. A simplified set of features that might not satisfy everyone. UI can get confusing to navigate. The built-in watch faces aren't as attractive as the actual watch.

While it's not the perfect replacement for an everyday wristwatch, the iOS and Android-friendly Meta M1 is a simplified smartwatch that gets a lot of things right.

Meta M1

The Meta M1 is a good-looking but limited smartwatch designed to act as a companion to your smartphone. It provides an array of data and alerts throughout the day, ranging from weather conditions and news updates to incoming emails and text messages.

Solidly built ; Looks great ; Reliable Bluetooth connectivity

Dim LCD screen ; Limited features ; Short battery life

While good looking and solidly made, the Meta M1 amounts to little more than an alert system with rather poor battery life.

Is the Meta M1 smartwatch a sexier-looking smartwatch for everyone?

Smartwatches of the future will either fall into two camps: those that pack tons of features and are part of mobile ecosystems, like Android Wear, and those that just try to be everyday, slightly-smarter watches.
