Sony SmartWatch 2 review

With more apps, better notifications, and a lower price, the Smartwatch 2 is more appealing than Samsung's Galaxy Gear, but not by much. Those looking for a slick, simple smartwatch experience will have to keep waiting.

Sony’s Smartwatch 2 is a solid effort, and a bit better than Samsung’s Galaxy Gear – especially given it costs $100 less. Sure, you don’t get the camera or the mic, but you do get a decent selection of apps to play around with, which makes Sony’s...

Sony SmartWatch 2 review: a fair effort that still hasn't cracked it

Cast your mind back to the period between August and October 2012, and there was barely a whisper about a smartwatch round these parts. Pebble was funded

Well-built ; Easy to use ; Large number of apps

Some software issues ; Average battery life

We really wanted Sony to lead the way with the SmartWatch 2, but some buggy software and poor app choices keep this from being the de facto option.

Sony SmartWatch 2 review

Time and again we've heard the same story: wearables are the next big thing in personal technology. Everyone will have wearables attached to their bodies in the next few years. And so on and so...

Always on display ; Attractive fit and finish ; Multiple day battery life ; Micro USB charging

Low resolution display ; Clumsy interface and setup ; Lots of lag ; Android only

Meet Sony's much improved SmartWatch 2

The $199 Sony SmartWatch 2 pushes Android alerts to your wrist, screens calls, and isn't afraid of spills.

The ; screens phone alerts, Gmail, and call info in real time. The device also has a modern, water-resistant design that's compatible with standard watch bands.

The Sony SmartWatch 2 is tricky to set up on non-Sony phones. The watch has a small clock face selection, short battery life, and a quirky music player app. There's no iOS support.

With its ability to push Android notifications to your wrist, the Sony SmartWatch 2 is more useful than Samsung’s Galaxy Gear, but the Pebble is still the best smartwatch deal around.

Sony SmartWatch 2

Sony gets closer to the smartwatch ideal with its second-iteration wearable smartphone companion. But bugs and other limitations make the SmartWatch 2 a product that's unlikely to appeal to the masses.

Sleek, comfortable design. Several hundred apps already available. Water-resistant. Readable in sunlight.

Bulkier than the first model. Buggy software. Many apps lack utility. Doesn't make or receive calls. No camera. Only works with Android.

The home screen consists of up to six icons—five are loaded by default, for the alarm, flashlight, an event list, settings, and a timer. As you add more apps to the SmartWatch 2, it will create additional home screens you can swipe between. The top bar...

Sony SmartWatch 2 Review

There's a smartwatch war going on right now - did you know? With the SmartWatch 2, Sony reminds the world that they've already been in the market for a generation, with months of head start going in an unbroken line of evolutionary products (even if...

If you’re looking for a bit of fun in the immediate future and don’t want the bulk of the Samsung Galaxy Gear (or don’t have a Samsung smartphone), look to the Sony SmartWatch 2. If you’ve just heard of the Qualcomm Toq in this review for the first...

Sony SmartWatch 2 Review

Take it or leave it, every major brand will seemingly set a wager with a smart watch of its own. Sony is one of the pioneers in this area with its LiveView screen tags way back in 2010, then the slim and stylish SmartWatch, and now we are getting the...

Greatly expanded functionality via 3rd party apps ; Very handy for quick check on notifications ; Decent battery life ; Water resistance

Slow ; Comparatively poor display ; Glitchy and frustrating to set up

Sony is improving on its smart watches in increments, treading the water lightly to gauge whether this nascent market will really take off, and it shows in the specs and price of the SmartWatch 2. It is a well built, but somewhat slow and glitchy...

Sony's SmartWatch 2 is a great second try by the company. Funny thing is, I didn't use it much as a watch. Let's see what Anthony thinks of it.

How SmartWatch 2 Is Sony, Huh? [Review]

Everyone's getting in on the Dick Tracy phenomenon. Hey I would like to talk into my wrist just as much as the next guy but not all Smart Watches on the market are intelligent. I had a kewl time wearing and getting used to the world's first...

Sony SmartWatch 2 review: it’s not bad

The best compliment I can give Sony's SmartWatch 2 is that it works. I still believe that wearable devices are in their infancy, and the SmartWatch 2 is pr

There’s nothing really wrong with the SW2, and for US$169, it costs as much as a middle-range watch. So for your money, you’re getting a great-looking watch, with a screen that’s a bit too tiny to support the myriad notifications on it. But again, the...
