The ADATA Premier SP550 SSD Review: A Second Look At Silicon Motion's SM2256 Controller

Silicon Motion's SM2246EN SSD controller was a highly successful solution for SSDs using MLC NAND flash. It offered a great combination of power efficiency, solid performance, and low cost. Last year we got an early look at the successor SM2256...

As for the SM2256 controller, it's clear that Silicon Motion is learning to deal with the challenges of managing TLC flash, and many of the remaining weaknesses exhibited by the SP550 can be blamed on the limitations of the flash rather than the...

Adata SP550 SSD Review

Adata's SP550 is the first SSD to hit our lab with Silicon Motion's new SM2256 controller paired with SK Hynix NAND. But does it compete with Samsung's prolific 850 EVO?

Cheap! The 240GB model is the sweet spot for the SP550 series but all of the drives break new ground for retail SSDs

Sustained write performance is a problem with most TLC drives and the SP550 just can't shake the TLC blues

When cost is more important than sustained performance the ADATA SP550 is a solid option in 120GB and 240GB capacity sizes. The 480GB model is still very low cost but its price is too close to the Samsung 850 EVO that is a better drive overall and has...

ADATA SP550 SATA III (120GB, 240GB & 480GB) SSD Review

ADATA's SP550 gives us our first look at Hynix 16nm TLC toggle flash. Powered by SMI's 2256 and an SLC cache layer, does this new SSD deliver the goods?

AData Premier SP550 240GB SSD Review

The SSD segment has seen a good amount of contraction over the last two years and that trend has continued as of late. With drive technology hitting

With the entry-level SSD market so full of excellent options like the OCZ Trion 100 and Crucial BX200, AData’s SP550 is faced with an

One Minute Review: Adata SP550 SSD

This affordable SSD pairs a SMI 2256 controller with Toggle TLC flash, which is the good stuff. We tested the 240GB model, which after formatting yielded 223GB of useable space.

"If you catch one of these at a bargain price - and in most shops we've seen these are very well priced - then our recommendation is to snap one up."

Great SSD for the money.

Slammed this in an enclosure. USB 3 transfer rates are around 32 Mb/s as compared to Samsung 840 Pro (also in a usb 3 enclosure) which are around 42 Mb/s. Both were on USB 2 ports. Really solid drive with great support. I have many AData products all...

Pain in the Auss!

Considering how seemless other manufacturer's SSD installations are, this is the one and only purchase I'll make from these cheapskates. Too bad there is no Zero Rating, Newegg!

It eventually worked using someone else's utility to configure it. Considering how seemless other manufacturer's SSD installations are, I'll never have to buy one of these again!

tried at least a dozen times to download the software, it doesn't come with, on 3 different occasions using 3 different computers (different OSs and networks). Eventually got something but Never able to get their "Free Valuable" software to work, kept...
