Review: Bowers & Wilkins MM-1

B&W's MM-1 desktop speakers are a perfect mix of business and pleasure, with rich tones and killer base tucked inside sleek black boxes.

Terrific sound across the entire spectrum. Included remote lets you control volume and jump between tracks (iTunes and Windows Media Player only). Inputs concealed beneath speakers (peekaboo!). Coffee-mug-sized footprint

Sound isn’t quite as bold as M-Audio’s AV 40s’ — a bit muffled at higher volumes. Not cheap

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 Computer Speakers Review

We've reviewed a number of great speakers, but we haven't been this excited about a set of boom boxes since we laid hands on the eponymous Cambridge SoundsWorks MicroWorks in the very first issue of boot magazine—way back in September 1996.

Exquisite audio reproduction; elegant design

Very expensive; short-ish, hardwired cable on right speaker cabinet

We’d like to tell you that the MM-1 is comparably priced to speaker systems made by the likes of Logitech, Altec Lansing, or even Klipsch, but 500 clams puts it at the opposite end of the spectrum. If you’re as passionate about audio quality as you are...

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 Computer Speakers Review

There are a lot of things to like about the new MM1 computer speakers from Bowers & Wilkins, the makers of the famous Zeppelin iPod dock/speaker. And while these don't have the audacious design philosophy of the Zeppelin or even B&W's legendary floor...

Perfectly balanced sound for near-field listening ; Understated good looks - especially when matched with MacBook or iMac ; Impeccable build quality

If you want volume for volume's sake, look elsewhere ; Expensive

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 Computer Speakers Reviewed

Designed to be computer speakers for people who care about computer sound, Andrew Robinson found the diminutive B&W MM-1 powered nearfield monitors delivered a great sound not only on his desktop, but also in his guest bedroom, office, and kitchen....

The MM-1s look every bit a high-end product and perform like one too

While the MM-1s sound very good, they can and will distort if pushed to hard, and when they go-they really go ; At louder volumes the MM-1's bass does lose a bit of its composureand begins to give up the ghost, compressing and sounding very digital ;...

I'm not going to say the $499.95 MM-1s from Bowers & Wilkins arecheap as far as computer speakers go, because they're not. However, incomparison to other computer speakers out there, they are far moremusical and sound more like traditional monitor...

Review: Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 desktop speakers

At $500, B&W's desktop computer speakers are anything but inexpensive, but you're paying not only for style, but an impressively clean and balanced sound in computer speakers.

The MM-1 is made up of just two desktop speakers—no subwoofer. Each unit includes a 3-inch woofer and 1-inch tube-loaded aluminum tweeter. Clearly designed with the visual aesthetics of Apple’s current MacBook Pro and iMac models in mind, each...

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 PC speakers

Bowers & Wilkins' MM-1 PC speakers deliver great audio

Wonderful audio, compact

Expensive for PC speakers

For a company that also sells audiophile grade music online, we were ready to question the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1's limitation to 16-bit resolution digital audio. As it happens, this speaker system makes something of a silk purse out of CD-quality...
