If we told you this unassuming donut of speakers produced hi-fi audio, you'd say we were lying. Then again, we might not be able to...

Incomparably clear, rich audio. Small enough to fit in your laptop bag beside your notebook, and it takes up very little desk real estate

Requires six AAA batteries and won’t juice up rechargeables. No storage slot for the Wrigley’s-gum-size remote means you’ll probably lose it on day one

JBL On Stage IIIP

The JBL On Stage IIIP works with all iPods and the iPhone, and it can be used with other MP3 players as well. It has a small footprint and can be run off of wall power or batteries. Delivers clear audio.

The JBL On Stage IIIP doesn't offer much bass, and there's no pass-through syncing option; volume controls are testy.

The JBL On Stage IIIP is a solid portable- and desktop-speaker option for iPhone users who want a compact unit that will work with a wide variety of audio devices.

The On Stage IIIP is portable and works with iPhone in phone mode.

Works with iPhone in phone mode. iPod menu navigation on remote. Impressive audio quality considering its size.

No rechargeable batteries. Carrying case not included. No video out.

I've had this for over six months now and wish I had one with better quality sound and the ability to dock with my case on it.

nice size for traveling - offers both the electrical and battery option for operation

expensive for nice but not great sound quality - can't dock with a cover on one's iPhone

If you're after a portable iPod speaker solution then JBL's On Stage IIIp may be just the ticket. While it does have a few small sound quality issues there is no denying that its small size, carry bag and battery support make it ideal for road listening.
