JBL Radial review: JBL Radial

JBL Radial

The JBL Radial speaker system sounds fantastic; includes audio line-in, video out, sync, and recharge capabilities, as well as an RF remote.

The JBL Radial speaker system is pricey, and its design may not appeal to some. It doesn't run on batteries.

If you're looking for a stellar-sounding iPod speaker system for your home--and you don't mind dropping a wad of cash for it--JBL's Radial might be just the ticket.

JBL Radial

JBL's new Radial iPod audio device sounds as good as it looks.

Superb sound quality. Wide sweet spot. Attractive design. Comes with an RF remote.

No composite video output. No power button on the remote. Power button is inconveniently located on back of unit. No volume indicator.

JBL Radial Review - iPod Speaker Review @ MP3 Player Edition

My iPod is a constant companion. I listen to it while I work, when I'm relaxing at home, and even while I wash the after-dinner dishes. As much as I enjoy my Shure e2c earphones (which are my iPod's constant companion), there are times when I'd...

Beautiful, Clear Sound; Stylish & Compact Design; Includes RF Remote; USB 2.0, 3.5mm Audio-In, S-Video

LimitedOnboard Controls; Short Ranged, Poorly Designed Remote; $299 MSRP

I give JBL a great deal of credit for this first attempt at a high-end iPod speaker system. I only hope they address the control issues with the next version.

JBL Radial High Performance Loudspeaker Dock for iPod

This past January, we saw the most attractive iPod speaker dock ever developed, and by February, we had reviewed it: judged by its curves alone, JBL's clock radio On Time (iLounge rating: B+) would be at the very top of our iPod speaker list. But On...

An attractive, shrine-like all-in-one iPod docking speaker system that roughly rivals Altec's class-leading iM7 on sound quality and volume, with a RF remote control capable of 35-foot uninterrupted broadcasting and near-distance iPod menu navigation....

No user customization of bass or treble levels, and otherwise roughly equivalent to the less expensive, equally attractive iM7 on audio performance. Though similar to company's earlier On Time in looks and still impressive in that regard, not quite as...

Incredible sound on the system! Remote is nice looking and easy to use. DOES NOT COME WITH ADAPTERS which you will need for most iPOD versions. NOt having adapters will not let u use it with any ease at all. Think JBL would let you know more about...

Expert Review

You'll pay a premium, but the Radial offers quality sound, an excellent remote control and a weird but attractive design. An excellent portable speaker system on the whole.

Great design, quality sound, charges and synchronises your iPod, works with any portable media player

Expensive, no bass or treble controls, can't run on batteries

JBL Radial high performance iPod Speaker System

Departing from the usual black-box approach to iPod speaker Systems JBL brings us something a little different - without sacrificing sound quality.

The JBL Radial does not follow the more common brick formula to iPod speaker systems, instead effectively being a vertically mounted donnut with the iPod nestling securely in the middle. The first things that strikes you as you take the JBL out of the...

JBL Radial

Once you've ripped your CD collection, you'll need a good set of speakers to make the most from it. The Macworld team take a look at six superb contenders.

Best 'desktop' sound quality we've heard, unique and attractive design, excellent RF remote

Dock inserts for older iPods not included, sound separation doesn't match that of separates

Just like the iLuv, JBL has opted for a one size for all strategy - the Radial lacks its own set of bass and treble controls, and because that kind of tweaking is an essential element to music listening, we think that's an oversight in an otherwise...

Radial

Available in glossy black or white this is one of the most unique-looking systems we've seen, with a circular shape reminiscent of the company's earlier On Time iPod alarm clock - except that it produces much better audio.

Best 'desktop' sound quality we've heard, good bass response for a desktop system, unique and attractive design, excellent RF remote with full iPod-menu-navigation functionality

Dock inserts for older iPods not included

More important, the Radial sounds good at the loudest volumes, with no significant distortion. But most surprising aspect is that the bass response doesn't start to roll off significantly until around 80Hz to 90Hz, and even 50Hz test tones were...

Consumer review (cnet.com)

The jbl radial surprised me with the sound quality.

i don't think it is over priced for its sound. Every time some one visited me and i played the dock they we're surprised from the sound from this little thing. even placed in the terrace, the sound is still rich and powerful. the cons are not a deal...

great speaker, the sound is fantastic for its size, bass is powerful. all accessories included, good quality build up and the white colour is fantastic.

remote is tricky even with the guide sticker on the back. you need to be gentle placing the ipod on the holder, it is not flimsy but requires attention. the volume adjustment steps are to big, have to use the ipod controls to reach the desire volume
