Samsung Shape wireless audio platform expands with cheaper M5 speaker

Samsung continues to try and match the Sonos ecosystem, with a new smaller Shape speaker to go along with the original M7.

Samsung M5

Make multiroom easy with Samsung's superb streaming speaker

Distinctive design ; Full-bodied sound with crisp detail ; Easy-to-use smartphone app

Occasionally overwhelming bass ; Not enough of a step up from the M3 ; No audio inputs

Samsung shows its rivals how multiroom should be done with its slick, stylish and user-friendly wireless speaker.

Samsung Shape Audio System review

One to watch in multi-room, Samsung's first effort is not bad at all

Big sound Decent amount of detail Good control app Well featured Clear mid-range

Lacks a universal ‘family sound’ Bass tubby and unrefined, particularly in M7

It’s a shame Samsung hasn’t been able to create a consistent sound across the speaker range. But, with the Shape Audio System, it has come close to providing Sonos with one of its first serious competitors in years. With extensive functionality, a...

Samsung M5 review

A seriously talented speaker that brings fun and performance in spades

Big and spacious sound for its size Fun, likeable character Clean, cohesive sound Strong midrange Exciting, agile presentation

Bass can occasionally be tubby

You will enjoy the clean, open and exciting sound the M5 produces, while its connectivity makes it a one-stop shop for your streaming needs. Its multi-room potential only adds to its charm too. This is a must-try wireless speaker that is fun and packs...

Samsung Shape M5 review

These Multiroom speakers have an attractive design and good sound quality

The Samsung Shape M5 sound good whether used as a single speaker or as part of a multiroom system. We just wish that the app and speaker supported more services. The Shape M5 is a good, pretty speaker, but those looking for a multiroom setup should...

Samsung M5 Speaker Review

The Samsung M5 might look like a wedge of odd cheese, but it packs in plenty of punch, and it aims to rival Sonos' multi-room skills too. Can Samsung topple Sonos for the multi-room crown or is it a lacklustre first effort? We take a look.

Despite its compact and unusual design, the Samsung M5 packs in some serious sound. It's loud and clear and sounds pretty good, although the bass could be more pronounced. And with some serious wireless smarts, it's easy to hook up a couple of them...

If you do want to opt for a multi-room setup, things can start getting pricey. You'll need an optional hub for a start, and at £50 it's not cheap

Samsung M5 Multiroom Speaker System Review

Samsung's assault on the multi-room audio market continues with the M5 wireless speaker.

Very easy setup ; Flexible placement ; Wide dispersion of sound ; Remote App is great ; Extremely reliable streaming ; Useful Ethernet switch on hub

Limited stereo separation ; Cheaper wireless speakers available

If you're looking for an individual wireless speaker there are cheaper options than Samsung's M5 that will sound just as good. However, if you're looking for a multi-room solution or would like that option later, then the M5 is a definite winner....

great product!

I love my new speaker, I bought only one to put on my nightstand and to pair with my phone primarily. It does what it's promised to do, and not an ounce less. I love it.
