Sonos Roam review: Tiny speaker, huge value

The $169 Sonos Roam isn't the cheapest Sonos speaker, but it is easily the most versatile. We think it's an incredible portable speaker for the price.

Excellent design ; Lightweight and portable ; Totally water and dustproof ; Very good sound for its size ; Choice of smart speaker assistants ; Wireless charging

No Bluetooth stereo pairing ; Doesn’t work as a speakerphone ; Less battery life than some other speakers

Sonos Roam review: portable potential

The tiny, lightweight speaker has a ton of functionality, but don't expect sound quality miracles.

A truly portable Sonos speaker ; Supports AirPlay 2, Alexa, and Google Assistant ; Rugged design that can endure the elements ; Wireless charging

Bass is limited by form factor ; No stereo pairing over Bluetooth ; 10-hour battery life falls short of other speakers ; Sonos app can be buggy on Wi-Fi networks that aren’t yours

The new Sonos Roam is a portable Bluetooth speaker that integrates with the company’s multiroom audio platform. It also supports Apple AirPlay 2 and has a mic for Alexa or Google Assistant. But sound quality is limited by its size.

Sonos Roam Review

The versatile Sonos Roam can easily be moved between your home speaker setup and the great outdoors, though you're paying a premium for convenience over audio quality.

Mono output ; Digital signal processing can overwhelm the audio at high volumes ; Not as loud as similarly priced speakers

Sonos Roam review: A good speaker in a small package

Sonos calls the Roam "the best-sounding ultraportable speaker ever made." That's a big claim, so needless to say, as soon as I got my hands on a review sample, I was eager to hear whether it lived up to that lofty billing. I'm happy to report that to a...

Compact and light Attractive design Impressive sound for its small size Automatically switches between your Sonos home Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth IPX67 dust- and waterproof Voice-enabled (on a Wi-Fi network) with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa...

Pricey compared to many mini Bluetooth speakers No power adapter included, only USB-C

The Link Portable is a bigger speaker and can play both louder and has more kick to its bass. But the overall tonal balance of the Sonos was more appealing to my ears. The JBL is very good but the Sonos is smaller and better designed -- if I were given...

Sonos Roam Review – A portable speaker to get you hooked

Sonos needs a gateway for new users, and the Sonos Roam is its answer. What looks like a regular Bluetooth speaker actually hides double the functionality: a portable speaker when you're on t…

Most affordable Sonos entry point ; Sounds great ; Easily transitions between Sonos and Bluetooth connections ; Qi wireless plus USB-C makes charging easy ; Rugged without looking ridiculous

Sound Swap and stereo pairing only work in Sonos mode ; Battery life falls short of Bluetooth-only rivals ; Price premium compared to Bluetooth-only speakers

Sonos Roam review: Now you really can take the exceptional Sonos sound anywhere

Small, lightweight, packed with great networking features plus your choice of Alexa or Google Assistant, the sweet-sounding Sonos Roam just became the portable smart speaker to beat.

Exceptional sound for its size ; Auto Trueplay now works over Bluetooth ; Sound Swap feature lets you “swap” music with other Sonos speakers ; Small and light, with a waterproof design

Slow wireless charging (at least with third-party chargers) ; Sound Swap doesn’t work across Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and AirPlay 2 modes

Sonos has been offering the choice of onboard Alexa or Google Assistant on its speakers for years now, and the Roam follows suit. From the Sonos app, you simply pick which assistant you want installed on the speaker, and the Roam does the rest, pausing...

Sonos Roam review: Exactly what we’ve been waiting for

The Sonos Roam has been a long time coming from Sonos. It's the company's first "truly" portable wireless Bluetooth speaker. It was nearly 2 years ago that Sonos first launched the Sonos Move, their first The Sonos Roam has been a long time coming from...

Durable ; Lightweight ; Powerful sound ; Seamlessly works with the Sonos ecosystem ; Automatically switches between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth ; Wireless charging ; Alexa and Google Assistant support

No power adapter included ; Not the best sounding Bluetooth speaker in its class ; Weak bass ; Battery life not as good as the competition

The Roam is the first truly portable wireless Speaker from Sonos and it’s packed with useful features

Sonos Roam Portable Wireless Speaker Review

If portability sound quality are important to you, the Sonos Roam smart speaker is an outstanding choice.

Rich, warm, sound; Impressive bass; Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and AirPlay 2; IP67 water- and dust-proof

Lacks treble clarity at high volumes; Pricey for a portable speaker

Sonos Roam Review: Building out the band

Sonos has finally released a portable Bluetooth speakers and it's really great. However, it's likely not the best mobile speaker for everyone.

Premium materials ; Big sound in a small body ; Has access to all of Sonos' features

Doesn't float ; Sonos software can be a tad overbearing ; battery life is a little lacklustre

This is the perfect speaker for Sonos fans, for everyone else, it's just a speaker

Sonos Roam review: The best portable smart speaker yet

The Sonos Roam is the portable Sonos speaker we've been waiting for. While the Sonos Move let me wirelessly listen to the company's top-notch sound, its heft left it hard to carry around. Weighing less than a pound, the $169 Sonos Roam is much easier...

Lightweight, portable design Auto TruePlay works outdoors Extensive connectivity features

Doesn’t support multiple Bluetooth sources at once Battery life could be better

The Sonos Roam is portable, durable and competitively priced, making it an attractive Bluetooth speaker on-the-go and a Sonos system enhancement back home.
