The Sony R520/R550 series offers excellent value and very good picture quality among its peers; relatively deep black levels; matte screen leads improves bright-room performance; attractive styling with unique stand.

Even better values are available; colors aren't entirely accurate; the different Smart TV interfaces can be confusing and a little slow; Screen mirroring didn't work on our sample.

The big-screen Sony R520/R550 series offers the best value you'll see from the company this year.

Here's what I had to say to Sony about the KDL-70R550A which is the same only larger. I have hesitated for several months to post my very bad luck with Sony's quality and customer support. This is from a 40 year loyal customer that has bought and sold...

Works great when it works

TV (2) only lasted less than 1 year like all R550A series. Should have been recalled.

Almost Perfect!

 

I bought this TV to use in my newly finished basement. The TV is mounted on the wall and is just flat out gorgeous to look at style wise. I have it connected to a Yamaha RX-v475 A/V receiver and it works without any problems.

An excellent big screen TV with great picture quality!

 

It's an excellent big TV for the price. The picture quality won't disappoint and I have not experienced any flickering at all.

The picture quality is fantastic especially when watching Bluray movies and playing video games. It also has passive 3D which is the same tech as you would find from the cinema. The 3D works great and it really pops out.

The smart TV feature is a bit slow and not that intuitive.

Best TV I have ever owned. I bought a Vizio M series and had to bring it back due to light bleed and nonsense widget apps. Bought this and got a free 12 month hulu and netflix subscription with it. FREE! The TV has been seemless, great picture, nice...

"worst tv ever"

 

This product does not work right. It turns off randomly, without warning. If we want to make sure it works for a big game we have to unplug it the night before and replug it in before the game.
