Amazon Fire 7 (2019) Review

In 2021, Amazon's Fire 7 tablet is underpowered for almost every task. The Fire HD 8 is the better buy.

Poor performance ; Disappointing display ; Underwhelming sound quality ; Amazon-centric OS limits app options

A $50 tablet can handle the basics, but not much more

Compared to affordable phones, budget tablets aren't a great value

It’s very affordable ; Supports popular apps and games ; Cameras are decent for video chatting

Limited app support ; Plastic build feels flimsy ; Screen is easy to smudge ; Strange button placement

Compared to affordable phones, low-cost tablets, like Amazon’s new Fire 7 and Walmart’s Onn tablet, handle the basics, but not much else. Their low prices are their greatest asset, though both cut too many other corners for most people.

Amazon's latest cheap-as-chips Fire 7 tablet is, once again, a slate designed almost solely for the consumption of Amazon content.

Very very cheap ; Great Prime integration ; Durable body

Poor screen ; Limited RAM becomes obvious quickly ; Hard to get away from Amazon content

If you’re a Prime subscriber who wants a cheap way to access that goodness, this is a good choice. If you care even slightly about display or performance, however, pay a little more and get the Fire HD 8.

Amazon Fire 7 (2019)

The Fire 7 has been updated for 2019, although you'd be hard-pushed to notice anything beyond the three new colours. But it is still well worth the tiny price.

Amazon Fire 7 (2019) review: Good cheap tablet gets minor improvements

The new version of this entry-level tablet comes with more built-in memory and adds support for hands-free Alexa voice recognition for the same low price.

The Amazon Fire 7 is inexpensive, has a standard headphone jack and houses a microSD card slot expandable up to 512GB. This 2019 edition has an upgraded processor and adds support for hands-free Alexa. Amazon Prime members can access the bevy of free...

The screen is sub-HD quality. App store doesn't have quite as much variety as Google Play Store. To truly take advantage of what the tablet has to offer, you need an Amazon Prime membership.

Amazon's slightly upgraded entry-level Fire 7 tablet remains a good value, but you're still better off spending a bit more for the HD 8 instead.
