Lenovo ThinkPad Helix review

The Helix is the most innovative Windows 8 tablet hybrid yet, with dual batteries, a bright display and a comfy keyboard to match. Still, it's expensive, especially considering it ships with last-gen CPUs.

Long battery life ; Inventive, versatile form factor ; Sturdy, comfortable keyboard ; Bright display with great viewing angles

Some awkward design elements ; Expensive considering the last-gen components

Even six months after it was originally announced, the ThinkPad Helix is the most innovative Windows 8 tablet hybrid we can think of. In a way, though, "innovative" is a backhanded compliment, at least in this case where the design is somewhat awkward....

Lenovo business 2-in-1 ThinkPad Helix gets new Intel M processor

The 11.6-inch convertible gets thinner, lighter, and more efficient, with redesigned keyboards that can bring the Helix up to 12 hours of battery life.

Double the Trouble

Like it or not, tablets are the future. Lenovo's latest, the ThinkPad Helix , is not likely to be a part of it. Here's why. Following on a string of successes with convertible PC designs — including the swell IdeaPad Yoga — Lenovo has now taken aim at...

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix review: A versatile but expensive Ultrabook/tablet hybrid

The pleasingly versatile ThinkPad Helix can instantly switch from a full-blown Ultrabook to a Windows 8 tablet. But you'll have to pay to play.

Can operate as a touchscreen notebook or a Windows 8 tablet ; Solid-state drive speeds up frequently performed operations ; Dual-battery arrangement delivers up to 6.5 hours of battery life

Subpar audio ; High-res screen can make small type difficult to read ; Pricey considering its 11.6-inch display

The ThinkPad Helix deserves kudos for its innovative design, and a business user in search of a laptop-tablet convertible with good performance might find the high price tag palatable. (And if money is no object, you can upgrade to a faster processor,...

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix

One of the better detachable hybrid tablets on the market, the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix gives the corporate IT buyer a great option for their highly mobile workforce.

Detachable screen gives users extra portability when needed. Decent battery life with keyboard dock. Innovative, sturdy hinge and docking connector. Dual pointing devices plus touch screen. Comes with stylus and onboard stylus storage. Keyboard dock...

Some fan noise. Tablet has only USB 2.0 port. Hinge is locked when tablet out of dock. Pricey.

At over $1,600, you will have to pay for the level of innovation and performance found in the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix. Though dear for a run of the mill consumer, this isn't out of line for the corporate or SMB buyer that is the target audience of this...

Lenovo's ThinkPad Helix is a business hybrid with an executive price

Dual batteries help make up for a last-gen CPU, but IT-friendly features add a serious price premium to this laptop/tablet combo.

The ; is a solidly built laptop-tablet hybrid with all the security features your IT department needs. Thanks to dual batteries in the tablet and keyboard base, it can run for a full workday.

The Helix is stuck with Intel's less efficient previous generation of CPUs, making it feel especially expensive.

Even with the best detachable-screen hybrid hinge we've seen, the older CPU and high price make the ThinkPad Helix a hybrid for a select audience only.

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix review

The Helix is a well-made but expensive product that presents an interesting question. While there very well may be a market for an 11-inch hybrid with an emphasis on business and security features and a body leaning toward the industrial, rugged side,...

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix review

CES is mostly just one hellacious blur. Here's a gadget, and another gadget, and a hooker, and a gadget, and hey do you want to know about my Kickstarter? At CES 2013, laptops were particularly...

Solid performance as both tablet and laptop ; Great battery life ; Great keyboard

Ugly, unpolished design ; Awkward hinge ; High-res display can be a problem ; Really expensive

If Lenovo can figure out the design, the next Helix could be great

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix Review

Lenovo has big plans with Windows 8, convertible laptops and Ultrabooks, and more but one that caught our eye at CES was the ThinkPad Helix. With a fancy design, versatility, and an 11.6-inch 1080p display it's quite the device. After a few delays the...

If you’ve been eying something like the Surface Pro, the Helix is a much better choice. It delivers tons of options, better battery life, and a keyboard that is actually useful in a way that you’ll feel comfortable. The ThinkPad Helix really does a lot...

Review Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 3G Convertible

Unlimited mobility. A tablet for the meeting, a notebook for the

Excellent build quality; Versatile; Great Full HD display; Long battery life; Low noise emissions; Good application performance; Integrated UMTS modem

Very hot under full load; Just 4 GB of RAM; Limited expandability; High price

Those who are unhappy with the limited expandability of the Helix may want to have a look at some conventional convertibles such as the ThinkPad X230T or the Fujitsu Lifebook T902. Consumers (instead of business customers) might find the Microsoft...
