Microsoft Surface Go 2 review: The awkward teenager

The Surface Go 2 makes marginal steps toward being a true iPad competitor, but is it enough to grow out of its awkward teenager phase? Sadly, the answer is no.

Beautiful, bright screen ; Light yet sturdy ; Runs a full version of Windows 10 ; Intel Core m3 offers solid performance

Too expensive ; Tablet usage is still rough ; Battery life is lacking

Surface Go 2 review: Microsoft's tiny PC is only a tiny bit better

The Surface Go 2 offers some slight improvements over the original: A larger screen and a faster CPU option. But the $400 model isn't much different, and all of the upgrades and accessories add up quickly.

Slim and sturdy design ; Versatile as a tablet and laptop ; Great 10.5-inch screen

Faster hardware costs a lot more ; No real improvements to the $400 model ; No bundled keyboard ; Every accessory is extra

Microsoft Surface Go 2 review: A gorgeous, pricey tablet with a decent CPU

Microsoft's Surface Go 2 is a gorgeous Windows tablet that seems best suited for business travelers. It's expensive, however, and the optional keyboard is cramped.

Compact size, light weight ; One of the best webcams in any laptop ; Solid productivity performance ; Bright, high-resolution display

Cramped keyboard makes prolonged typing awkward ; Cheap for a Surface, but not necessarily compared to other tablets ; Battery life is just average

Our review unit included the LTE option, which you can turn on either by inserting your own microSIM into the side-mounted slot, or else enabling the eSIM functionality included in the machine.

Microsoft Surface Go 2 review

Small updates to the Surface Go 2 lead to a big improvement

Vivid 10.5-inch display ; Sleek magnesium design ; Long battery life ; Excellent webcam ; IR camera for Windows Hello login

Last-gen CPUs ; Cramped Type Cover keyboard ; Keyboard and stylus sold separately

With long battery life, thin bezels and decent performance, the Microsoft Surface Go 2 addresses the shortcomings of its predecessor, but don’t expect a miracle from this $399 tablet.

Microsoft Surface Go 2 review

The Microsoft Surface Go 2's upgrades make it shine with all day battery life.

But as you've seen in this Microsoft Surface Go 2 review, Microsoft's made a solid Surface 2-in-1 for those who don't want to pay Pro prices. And, importantly for everyone working from home right now, it's got a webcam made for today, not a decade ago.

Microsoft Surface Go 2 release date: Everything you need to know

A new report sheds a bit of light on Microsoft's new budget tablet – here's what we know

The only other take-away from the report published by Petri is that this will not be a significant product overhaul. The Surface Go 2 will supposedly retain the same core design choices and form factor of its predecessor. That’s a shame, but we’ll take...
