Consumer review (coffeegeek.com)

All in all, quite a good first espresso machine for the price.

I've been drinking plunger coffee for years but am fairly new to home espresso.

Great Aesthetics ; Stainless Steel Finish ; Easy to use and clean ; Quick warm up time ; Great steam wand

Inconsistent results ; Pressurized filter basket

Don't be tempted by its low price and good looks. Possible to get a good shot if all conditions are absolutely perfect, which is like, impossible.

Our local Costco had these for $200 Canadian, which is actually less than what the Breville Café Roma sells for at the local Sears. We are currently using a Saeco Armonia that I bought last year for the same price, but there are a few shortcomings, and...

This is a beautiful machine at an excellent price. Wonderful design touches like the hidden drawer, filter eject button on the portafilter, front loading water tank that is easy to read. Fast warm-up time. Can put a big mug under the dispenser for latte

Too finicky for grind/tamp. Almost impossible to get a good shot with their crap double-walled filters. Steam wand leaks, and this is a brand-new machine! Very difficult to control steam...wide diameter wand makes it difficult to control for a single...

I can't recommend this machine to anyone who is seriously interested in pulling good espresso shots.

I love the look of this machine, but have been endlessly frustrated with its performance.

Aesthetic appeal; this machine has it ; Drip Tray

Pressurized portafilter baskets ; Small, irregular portafilter size (51mm) ; Tamper/Scoop combo ; Breville Customer Service ; Inconsistent pump ; Sloppy wet pucks (with the pressurized filter)

Brilliant machine - great aesthetics and value for money, but when will they get the filter right?

I'm on my second device, the first returned after a month because the filter stopped passing even water, despite all cleaning efforts. The new one wouldn't even pass water through, before it had ever been loaded with coffee! I then stumbled on...

Modern aesthetics, with a solid feel to its thermoblock assembly and a commercial-grade steam wand. Needs very little water and only a short time to cycle up ready for a couple of shots, so that a tankful might easily last 3-5 sessions. Excellent...

Badly let down by its filter baskets - but all is not lost! Previously posted advice to obtain Krups part MS0907163 is correct - obtainable from any Krups service agent, or online in US. This also applies to some other Breville models, but here's...

With the addition of the non-pressurized baskets, this baby can make some killer expresso and it will look great while doing it.

I had credit at Williams Sonoma and wanted to get a machine and when they knocked 100 dollars off the price, I settled on this one. We have a modern kitchen with lots of stainless steel and the Breville looks like it was made for our place. At the...

Gorgeous styling. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Heats up fast. Versatile. Not bad value either, considering it was marked down from 300 to 200. Comes with a nice frothing pitcher. Good espresso with non-pressurized baskets

Pressurized baskets. Gimpy plastic tamper that doesn't fit that well. Sort of drips water at times. Non-standard basket size. It looks like it needs a 50 or 51mm tamper, but they are hard to find and the ones on the net are like 60 or 70 bucks. I think...

For the money, an ok machine. Great steaming and fantastic asthetics. Make sure you have a good grinder and some patience.

I'm not an espresso snob, but I value and want to be able to produce good quality shots at home. Straight shots & lattes are the primary means of consumption. My first machine (college) was an old Krups, the kind that used steam to generate the black...

Good price. Nice and modern design. Very quick heat up. Fairly quiet pump. Great steaming wand on ball-joint w/ both 'pro' tip and steaming aid. Easy to use

Not so great crema. Two spouts, and it's just about impossible to get even shots between the two. One side or the other always produces more espresso than the other, and it's not consistent from shot-to-shot. Missing parts from the box (!)

Good flavor but probably under extracted, almost no crema.

It is my first real espresso machine. I used Illy espresso coffee so I assume that the grinding is ok. You have to press real hard to get crema even if the coffee basket is a pressurized one. According to standard it should take 25 sec to make and...

The removable reservoir is very practical ; Nice, full inox

Fast extraction, embedded lamp in button, froth sleeve, very thin crema

Still working after light use.

I've had the problem of the lever not staying down once. I hope it doesn't return. Otherwise I love all the features on my four slice model: lift & look, crumpet, and digital display. The beep is great; it means I can get the butter on ASAP so it melts.

Never buy any breville toaster again

Given as a wedding gift, had an issue from the start with not toasting both sides, tracked the recipe down from the giver. Took back unit replaced, same issue with next one. Took it back 3rd time seemed ok.. All that time and 1 month out of warranty...

Frustrating expensive experience

Worked fantastic for about 4 months and then the problems started. Toasting uneven, setting do not produce constant result. Great looking unit but pity it does not longevity. Now out of warranty by a couple of months and the center element is dead....
