LG SL80 review: LG SL80

LG SL80

Minimalist look with thin bezel; 1.8-inch depth and edge-to-edge glass; accurate color; extensive picture controls including unique Picture Wizard; solid connectivity with four HDMI ports and one PC input; energy efficient.

Reproduces light black levels; does not separate antiblur and antijudder processing; benefits of 240Hz difficult to discern; glossy screen reflects ambient light; below average off-angle viewing.

The LG SL80 series' style-first philosophy will appeal to buyers seeking a sleek LCD TV and don't mind sacrificing some performance.

LG 42SL80

The 42-inch LG 42SL80 offers 240-Hz technology with a sleek, edge-to-edge glass design.

Sleek, edge-to-edge glass design. 240-Hz technology. Good color quality. Easy setup wizard.

Soft standard-definition quality. Some visible haloing. Weak deinterlacing performance.

LG 47SL80

The LG 47SL80 is a 47-inch HDTV that has an attractive design and good connectivity and adjustment options. It is not at the top of its class when it comes to performance, but that does not mean it shouldn't get a strong look from LCD shoppers.

LG 42SL8000 review

The LG 42SL8000 delivers punchy, high-contrast images from all sources

Colourful, high-contrast images ; good spec for the money ; good-looking and nicely finished ; great menus

Never entirely comfortable with motion ; images could conceivably be more detailed ; thinks it’s frameless

The unpredictability of past LG TV ranges has been replaced by products either ‘very good’ or ‘extremely good’ – this is one of the former

LG 32SL8000 television

Do TVs need Bluetooth? LG thinks so, and has packed its latest LCD TV with this aging wireless tech. Activate Bluetooth via the onscreen menus and it's then possible to pair the TV with either a set of wireless headphones, or a mobile phone. The latter...

USB plays DivX and DivX HD, cinematic Blu-ray pics, clean Freeview pics, Bluetooth

HD could be sharper, slight lack of contrast

If it lacks ultimate Full HD sharpness - and that's about all it does lack - there's nothing wrong with the 32SL8000's interpretation of Freeview, which is classy and clean. Sound quality is nothing to shout about, but the onboard underslung speakers...

LG 42SL8000 review

This HDTV is ultra thin, it's packed with features, and all in all it's really rather good

Attractive ; Slim design ; Excellent picture quality ; Good feature count ; Quite good value

Issues with 200Hz system ; Limited viewing angle ; Some artefacting

A good performer with an innovative design, but it's far too dear, given what's on offer for less
