Panasonic TH-42PX8A

A great 720p TV

Sharp picture, great colours, strong performance across both HD and SD, bright picture, good PC performance

Contrast in dark areas a little lacking, not full 1080p

Panasonic's Viera TG-42PX8A is a stunning television and is definitely one of the best 720p units on the market right now. Its image quality is excellent and it performed well across a broad range of sources including HD, SD and PC.

Panasonic TH-42PX8A

The Panasonic TH-42PX8A is a marked improvement on the 700 series, which is quite an achievement for a budget plasma. Pity it's not true HD, though.

Decent colours and excellent black levels ; Very detailed picture ; Cheap

Not true HD ; Occasional vertical fly-screen effect

If there's any faults with this plasma, the ones you'll encounter with the most are: off-axis viewing can result in image doubling, due to the outer glass screen reflecting the images underneath; and less-than-optimal performance in a bright room as...

Panasonic TH-42PX8A

Brilliant panel easily beats sony full 1080p LCD panel for pure picture processing and colour depth. Too much made of native resolutions these days (1080 V 768) but truth be told contrast, speed, colour are all much more important in a television and...

Picture processing and colour depth

none to speak of

Panasonic TH-42PX8A

Probably the best entry level plasma. It's 100Hz and 24 frames/second - The base LG and Samsung don't offer both of these together

Panasonic's reputation ; Great Picture ; Cheap - only paid $985 ; 100Hz AND 24 frames/second

Hard to fault - had mine for a few months now ; Should have really got the 50inch

Panasonic TH-42PX8A

Cheap and considering the many varying qualities of signals and aspect ratios a sensible buy.

A beautiful screen with rich warm stable colours it really is a good buy. It easily upscales from DVD quality as there is less calculations to get to 768P than to 1080P!

The only consideration is the 4.3 aspect ratio. Which means that some content will have bars on the top and bottom of the screen due to (about) 2.1 ratio of newer signals. However it has a very clever 'JUST' mode (adjust) to cater for this.
