Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ81 46in Plasma TV

From preview to review, the first UK TV with integrated Freesat tuner gets the once over from John.

Although it's a shame for the 46PZ81 that the Freesat service doesn't currently carry a bit more high definition content to make the most of its screen's Full HD resolution, that's hardly the TV's fault. In fact, there's very little that IS the TV's...

Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ81 Freesat TV Preview

With the Freesat launch only a couple of weeks old, Panasonic already has the service integrated into its TVs.

Panasonic's PZ81 Freesat enabled range will launch in 42 and 46in sizes in June, with a 50in model shipping in July - it was the 46in TH-46PZ81 that I got my paws on. First impressions of the set are very good, which is unsurprising considering that...

Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ81B television

Panasonic has introduced the World's first flat panel TV with a built-in Freesat tuner and it's a cracker. The 46-inch model we had to test has Full HD 1080P resolution, though its blocky black lines aren't the most stylish on offer today, it is a...

Easy to use and set-up, fantastic picture quality, good connectivity, good built-in audio, Freesat

Distractingly reflective screen surface, no record to SD card, only HD playback, reds a little flat

Yes, we’re still waiting on Freesat to deliver both the service and range of channels a TV set like this deserves, but as that’s out of Panasonic’s hands, products like this will help build a groundswell for improved HD programming.

Panasonic TH-46PZ81 review

Panasonic's three-strong range of integrated Freesat TVs promises free HD for all. This 46incher looks the most tempting…

Relatively pricey, but the Freesat tuner works superbly and the performance justifies the outlay

Panasonic TH-46PZ81B

The Panasonic TH-46PZ81B is a 46-inch full-HD (1920 x 1080) plasma TV. With built-in Freesat, it has a contrast ratio of 30,000:1, the new Real Black Drive system and Intelligent Frame Creation. With three HDMI slots, Composite video input, S-Video...

The rumours of the death of plasma have been greatly exaggerated – this stunning 1080p TV couldn’t be more future-proofed if it ran on biodiesel made from recycled iPods. Panasonic TH-46PZ81B is tagged with Panasonic, plasma, TV and black. Select a tag...

Panasonic TH46PZ81

Panasonic's latest plasma TV boasts not one, not two, but three TV technology firsts.

Within the Freesat service you can currently find nearly 80 channels, around 50 of which are TV (as opposed to radio) channels. The 46PZ81 can, of course, receive every last one of these channels, including the two HD offerings: BBC HD and ITV HD

Panasonic TH-46PZ81

Freesat HD / Good onscreen interface / Excellent picture performance / Decent audio

Not the cheapest

You might think the Freeview tuner a pretty pointless addition to the Freesat one, but in fact there are currently a number of channels you can get on Freeview that aren’t available on Freesat. So having both tuners is the only way to guarantee you the...

Panasonic TH46PZ81

Excellent all round performance from Panasonic's 'Freesat' enabled plasma ..

The TH46PZ81 excels with HD material and produces a better than average SD performance for such a large screen. Add the convenience of integrated Freesat and you have a very desirable, albeit a slightly expensive flat panel TV.
