Performance

Philips 42PF9830A

Solid black-level performance for an LCD; video processing includes 2:3 pull-down; accurate primary colors; attractive styling; motorized swivel stand; built-in colored backlight.

No independent memory per input; color decoding accentuates red slightly; no dedicated PC input.

The Philips 42PF9830A is one of the best-performing LCDs we've reviewed, although it still doesn't rival the better plasmas at this size.

Philips 32PF9830 LCD TV

If you're after a TV to impress people with the quality that LCD can deliver, there are few models that can line up with Philips Philips 32PF9830 for pure picture quality.

Superb picture quality. Simple or complex setup. Comes with motorised stand. Plenty of inputs, including DVI and HDMI.

DSP can make poor quality pictures look uneven. No integrated digital tuner. Speakers only average. Expensive.

If you're after a TV to impress people with the quality that LCD can deliver, there are few models that can line up with Philips Philips 32PF9830 for pure picture quality -- as long as you've got plenty of high definition content to display it with....
