We take a look at Philips' latest no-frills entry level LED LCD TV.

Uniform LED backlighting ; Good scaling of standard definition content ; Built-in speakers are quite good ; Correct handling of 24p input ; Excellent input lag in Game mode ; Very good energy consumption

Poor cadence detection ; Black level could be better, resulting in loss of dynamic range ; Off-axis performance is weak ; Lack of CMS or a proper Greyscale control excludes accurate calibration ; Badly designed remote ; Menu system is slow to respond...

The 40PFL5605 is a competent but rather uninspiring display that is clearly aimed at a particular segment of the market. However, I found that its attempt to simplify a lot of the controls actually ended up making the 40PFL5605 more complicated to use...

excellent picture quality. Easy to set up. Good looks. built in freeview. Easy to use handset.

layouts of how to connect auxilary equipment is not clearly explained or shown. If you select the wrong option for equipment, there is no cancel or back button you have to start from the begining again. Model numbers don't show up in sky handset when...

It looks beautiful, was easy to set up with on screen instructions. Unfortunately my set came minus the stand fastening screws so I had to wait before I could use it. Great picture, low power consumption, very pleased with it.
