Philips 55PFS6609

Philips gets its 2014 TV story off to a strong start, unless you're a gamer

Excellent picture quality ; Gorgeous premium design ; Lots of picture set up flexibility

Rather complicated to get the best from ; Input lag is high for gaming ; Minor crosstalk with 3D

One final point to add here is that the TV is equipped with day and night ‘ISF’ presets so that a qualified ISF calibrator could be paid to come round and do all the tricky set up work for you, on a per-source basis. This will cost you anywhere between...

Stick with HD content and the Philips dazzles with confidence, but rivals offer better performance for a better price

Excellent with high-def content ; Bright and crisply detailed picture ; Punchy colours and highlights ; Stable motion ; Ambilight

Upscaling could be better ; Muddled sound quality ; Remote is cheap and sluggish to use

We’re left with mixed emotions on the 6609. On one hand, it’s not as good with standard-def content and it can be sluggish to use.

Philips 55PFS6609 TV review

Although Philips televisions have a reputation for being inscrutable, the brand appears to have reined in its loopy picture processing predilections considerably with this 55-incher. Now you really don't need to tweak overmuch to get a picture...

Overall, this 6 Series Philips has much going for it. Both sound and vision are a cut above the norm and while it wouldn't be our top choice if connected Smart functionality was top priority, or we wanted a screen specifically optimized for sports,...

Philips 55PFS6609 (PFS6609) TV Review

When it comes to the Philips 55PFS6609, very poor backlight uniformity spoils what would have been a great value TV.

Great price ; Impressive blacks ; Accurate colours ; Decent Smart TV platform ; The stand swivels ; Ambilight is great

Extremely poor screen uniformity(Rectified with second review sample) ; Awful menu system

The PFS6609 is contemporary in appearance with a powdered silver bezel which is very slender and a skeletal base-stand which quite remarkably swivels. The back panel is also unusual in the fact that it’s white which is no doubt to aid the LEDs used in...
