Samsung's F5500 plasma isn't too bad

The Samsung F5500 plasma offers great features and very good picture quality, but like the gremlins it hates bright lights.

The ; plasma TV offers a very attractive mix of features, performance, and design for the right price; black levels are very good for the money; Smart TV and a usable Web browser are unexpected bonuses; 51-inch version is relatively energy efficient.

Picture quality deteriorates quickly as room lighting brightens; relatively inaccurate color of red; poor sound quality.

The Samsung F5500 plasma offers great features and very good picture quality, but its performance suffers significantly under the lights.

Samsung PN60F5500 ( 59.9" viewable )

The F5500 is cheaper than the ST60, but its picture isn't anywhere near as good. From color response to black levels to shadow detail, the Panasonic ST60 is superior in every way. That's not to say the Samsung F5500 is a poor television -- it's not,...

Samsung F5500 series plasma review

Plasma technology has been around for long enough that it's able to deliver a high-quality display for very little money, and there are two companies at the forefront: Samsung and Panasonic. This year, Panasonic's ST60 received our first five-star...

Samsung F5500 Plasma TV

The Samsung F5500 Plasma TV has the same panel as the , but comes packed with more features. It adds 3D and Samsung's Smart TV interface. The screen still reflects a lot of light, so you will need a dark viewing environment to enjoy it.

Good contrast ratio. ; Good motion handling.

Reflects a lot of light. The screen appears grayish when the lights are on. ; Average input lag.

Samsung PN64F5500 Review – 64-inch Plasma HDTV

This is a product that seems to be way different than other plasma alternatives. Usually, plasma TVs are thought to be light and suitable to be carried around. However, the PN64F5500 weighs 45 lbs along with the stand. The weight is equally...

Samsung PN64F5500 1080p Plasma TV Review

The 64 inch PN64F5500 is the largest mid level plasma TV in Smasung's 2013/2014 lineup. The F5500 has a number of features found on the F8500, but most of them are missing. What you get is active 3D functionality and the new and improved Smart Hub. The...

The PN64F5500 takes notes from the flagship F8500 models to provides deep blacks with good detail in dark scenes. The blacks don't measure up the the levels of the F8500, but are strong nonetheless. Plasma have always had the advantage when it comes to...

Samsung PS51F5500

An awesome 51-inch plasma TV for less than £750.

Great value ; Excellent 2D and 3D pictures ; Expansive Smart TV features

Slightly sluggish Smart menus at times ; Pictures not as bright as LCD ones ; Standard definition images lose a little colour naturalism

This can be particularly aggravating when using the voice recognition system, as there’s quite a lengthy delay between first pressing the Voice button on the remote and the voice menu appearing.

Samsung PS51F5500 review

Samsung is famous for its high-end TVs (anyone for a curved OLED?) but, as the PS51F5500 shows, isn't afraid to get its hands dirty at the budget end of the market. For a good chunk less than £1,000, this plasma gives you a helluva lot – 51 inches of...

Superb picture quality for the price; sounds better than some more expensive sets; excellent Smart functionality

Motion judder (no Samsung 'canceller' at this level); AV connectivity could be better; USB disk recording format PC-incompatible
