Samsung PS50Q97HDX review

It's got no 1080p, but Samsung's PS50Q97HDX seems to have everything else: a massive screen, three HDMI sockets, technical virtuosity and a motorised stand - all for £1500

Apart from the lack of 1080p, the only real gripe is that the PS50Q97HDX is so good it’ll make some of your poorer quality DVDs look even worse. Buy one

Samsung PS50Q97HD review

Samsung seduces us with a stunning 50in plasma

Great looks ; Strong connections ; Impressive specification ; Good all-round images

Optimum setup easily compromised

Samsung proves that its plasmas are just as good as its LCD TVs

Samsung PS50Q97HD

Obviously it looks great; the glossy black finish and coolly subtle curves and angles that have become Samsung's trademark are all beautifully present. But it also scores major kudos for its connections, most notably the inclusion of three HDMIs (where...

Great pictures, sumptuous design, bags of features and connections, impressive price

One or two optional processing elements can negatively impact the pictures

Samsung PS50Q97HD

It's not always about being the very best or the cheapest. What many punters really want is a TV that offers a good balance between cost, performance and features - a description that fits Samsung's PS50Q97HD to the letter.

Excellent connectivity, High contrast ratio

Not 1080p

This all-rounder of a plasma is another runaway success story for the manufacturer - all at an appealing price too

It's very difficult not to like the Samsung PS50Q97HDXBuy this for £617.47 at Dixons Use code '5TV' for £32.50 discount. Sure, it is not full HD, but perhaps that's why it does so well with standard definition content at reasonable sitting distances....

SAMSUNG PS50Q97HD

This is a nice televsion with an excellent picture. The 50" is very big and you need to have a big room to get the full advantage.

The sound on this set is terrible and can only be used with a surround sound system. While the television worked it was great but it unfortunately broke down 18 months after purchase with a inherent fault - burnt out PCB board. Got a new upper section...
