Sharp LC-46LE820UN 46-Inch LCD Tv

(Editor's note: This review of the Sharp 820UN series is based on our hands-on testing and evaluation of the 52-inch 52LE820UN. According to the manufacturer, the image quality and features should be equivalent for each TV in this model line.)

Decent image quality ; Energy-efficient set ; Above-average audio ; Good documentation

Pricey for its screen size and feature set ; User interface feels cluttered ; Odd port placement

The Sharp Aquos 820UN Series offers good image quality, above-average audio, and energy efficiency, but its Internet and other features aren't the greatest, its design has serious shortcomings, and it is pricey for its screen-size class.

Sharp LC-46LE820 Quattron LED-illuminated LCD HDTV (TPV 93)

Back in January in Las Vegas at the annual Consumer Electronics Show, while some other TV brands were debuting 3D HDTVs, Sharp instead cause a stir by bowing a series of HDTV flat panels branded Quattron that were equipped with four pixel colors...

Review: Sharp LC-46LE820UN 46-Inch LCD TV

The Sharp Aquos 820UN Series offers good image quality, above-average audio, and energy efficiency, but its Internet and other features aren't the greatest, its design has serious shortcomings, and it is pricey for its screen-size class.

Sharp has been touting its Quattron quad-pixel technology (which adds yellow pixels to the usual red/blue/green array), so we were eager to see how its image quality would fare in our juried tests of the Sharp Aquos 820UN Series, a 52-inch, LED-backlit...

Sharp LC-46LE820UN LED LCD HDTV Reviewed

Quattron is the name that Sharp has given to its new four-color technology, which adds yellow to the standard red/green/blue filter. The LE820 Series is one of three new lines that employ the technology. The 46-inch LC-46LE820UN also sports 120Hz...

Sharp's new quad-pixel technology adds yellow to the standard RGB filter ; This TV has a 1080p resolution and will accept 24p sources via its HDMI inputs ; Fine Motion Enhanced 120Hz technology effectively reduces motion blur ; LCDs can be very bright,...

Edge-lit LED-based LCD TVs can suffer from brightness-uniformity issues, and their black levels are generally not as deep as you'll find with the better full-array LED-based TVs with local dimming ; LCD viewing angles are not as good you'll find with a...

Sharp Quattron LC46LE820X

While there's a lot to like about the Sharp Quattron LC46LE820X, the colour palette afforded by the addition of a yellow pixel is more neon than natural.

Punchy, vivid images ; Four HDMI ports with ARC ; Modern styling

but "me-too" looking ; Unnatural colours ; Quite reflective

Even so, we'd suggest users look instead to less hyperactive technologies from the likes of Panasonic (in the case of plasma) and Sony (for LCD). You will probably end up paying more but the resulting picture will be entirely more pleasing.

Sharp Quattron LC-46LE820X

During the past few years we have seen a lot of innovations in the TV market, Full HD, 3D TV, IPTV and a new generation of ultra thin eco friendly screens. But one of the most impressive innovations has come from Sharp - the company that invented LCD TV.

Multitude of ports; Great image quality; Great skin colours; Media playback; Deep black levels; Excellent audio quality

Touch control prone to fingerprints; Lack of an IPTV service

Sharp Aquos LC-46LE820E Quad-Pixel TV review

To remind us exactly who it was that invented the LCD way back in 1973, Sharp has given the dominant TV technology a radical new twist. Its latest X-Gen panels add a fourth sub pixel, yellow, to the traditional RGB display. With four colours to play...

The fourth colour means a smoother and more natural palette. Recording from the Freeview HD tuner onto the internal memory is a bonus. Excellent build quality

There’s a premium to pay for the new technology. Direct, rather than edge LED backlighting would have been preferable
