Star Wars: Jedi Challenges

Star Wars: Jedi Challenges is an AR game that features fun and fast-paced lightsaber battles, strategic combat, and tense rounds of Holochess, but tracking issues occasionally get in the way of gameplay.

Fun gameplay. Massive appeal for Star Wars fans. Cool, high-quality lightsaber controller. Compatible with Android and iOS phones.

Tracking issues in testing. Narrow field of view.

Bottom Line: Star Wars: Jedi Challenges is an AR game that features fun and fast-paced lightsaber battles, strategic combat, and tense rounds of Holochess, but tracking issues occasionally get in the way of gameplay.

Star Wars: Jedi Challenges Review: The AR Force is strong

Is there a science-fiction franchise more ripe for an augmented reality game than Star Wars ? Disney and Lenovo don't think so, hence Star Wars : Jedi Challenges, a new gaming system that promises lightsaber battles, Holochess, and more in your own...

Finally, a "real" lightsaber ; Affordable, with great build-quality ; AR graphics flatter the Star Wars universe

Single-player only (for now) ; AR lightsaber blade can drift ; Currently limited to one Star Wars app only

Easy setup ; Free app with fun, compelling games ; Comes with a lightsaber ; Works with 15 (and counting) popular phones

Needs specific room conditions to work ; Tracking can be a bit spotty

Star Wars: Jedi Challenges offers hours of fun with a lightsaber replica and smartphone-powered AR headset, though the tracking could be better.

Star Wars Jedi Challenges review: The must-have for the Star Wars-obsessed is now a LOT cheaper

Lenovo's Mirage AR headset is the best case for AR yet

Excellent and innovative use of technology ; One of the best AR experiences yet ; Packed full of Star Wars fan service

No proof it’ll be used beyond Jedi Challenges ; A lot of money for a single use

Despite my concerns about price, it’s obvious that many Star Wars fans will pay up, simply for the opportunity to be a Jedi. But if you’re simply curious about AR, I’d advise waiting until Lenovo or Disney make it clear they’re going to support the...
