Panasonic DMP-BD65P: Media Streaming at a Reasonable Price

The Panasonic DMP-BD65P's $150 price (as of December 6, 2010) makes it downright tempting, especially for a Blu-ray player that also streams video via the Internet. But a clumsy remote control and poorly designed on-screen menus make it difficult to...

Very low price ; Strong Internet-streaming options ; Multimedia via USB and SD ; Buttons on player are well placed

Disappointing image quality ; Ugly, poorly organized on-screen menus ; Difficult-to-use remote control

The Panasonic DMP-BD65P has a low price, given its selection of Internet-streaming options--but it suffers from uninspiring image quality.

PICE OF CRAP!

Bought 1st one on Sunday... it palyed 2 movies then quit. Exchanged it on Wednesday and this one would not even start up. Taking it back today for a Sony.

NONE! 2 failures

Doesn't work

Very good value for the price!

Good value and I enjoy watching movies on Netflix and Youtube.

Easy to set up and I enjoy the quality

You have to buy the Wireless adapter to use this feature which is about $80.00 with tax. Sometimes the downloads are not as complete as for almost 4 days I did not have access to Netflix

Great BD Player for the right price

First BD Player for me and I wasn concerned because my friends complained of long boot and load times, but this one is MUCH faster than my neighbor's Sony player. The price was great for what I got, can't complain!

Price (under 100), fast start up, Vieracast Options, easy and automatic firmware updates

Vieracast can be a little slow, "wifi ready" but needs separate accessory

good video player, but flawed jpeg capability

It's a good video player but new firmware to improve jpeg image and music delivery would make it a supurb value.

Both an SD and a USB port for jpeg pictures and mp3 music ; Painless firmware update via the ethernet/internet connection

The SD port does NOT support music. Edited jpeg images most probably will NOT be displayed despite being OK for numerous image display/management/editing programs. This poor support for enhanced images reduces the value of these ports and the player

Good performace .... Netflix access is limited,

if you are ok with the limited netflix menu (you have to go to another device to see and select queue titles) then its a good machine. customer service via email is pretty responsive although they didnt seem concerned about the Netflix issue. all in...

easy setup, price to feature ratio, playback, remote, pretty fast loading

netflix acces is limited to your queue ; takes a while (45 seconds) to change to net from playback of blue ray disk

Firmware update wipes out Netflix

I WAS very pleased with this unit until yesterday when it insisted I update the firmware to v1.43. The update was quick (I use the Ethernet connection to my 30Mb/s TimeWarner cable modem). But now it will no longer access Netflix. Panasonic service...

Just about everything until the unit told me to update the firmware to v1.43

Updating the firmware to v1.43 (released 11/22/2010) makes Netflix inaccessible. Worked great before
