Samsung HMX-U20 review

This pocket camcorder packs a quality lens offering optical zoom

Good quality zoom ; Still picture performance ; Fast to adjust ; Price

Little noisier than competition ; Slow to focus

Samsung HMX-U20 review

Sticking with the slightly bent form factor of the HMX-U10, Samsung return with another stab at the pocket camcorder segment. The previous model suffered the way many of these cameras do: it was fixed focus and failed to deliver good results except in...

Image quality, autofocus, optical zoom

Environmental noise from mic, background and operational noise in quiet conditions, low light performance not great, screen viewing angle not brilliant

Strong video meets weak audio, with some underlying audio detection of operational noises. This will deter some customers, but we suspect those filming your average children's party will be happy with the results

Samsung HMX-U20, a surprisingly cheap pocket video camera

It can't quite match the polish of the Flip range of cameras, but it's very good for the money.

Review: Samsung HMX-U20

The most noticeable feature of the Samsung HMX-U20 is the lens, which makes it look more like a serious piece of photographic equipment than a pocket video camera.

Don't Buy!

Can't find any yet

I tried to use it in a room with regular lighting and the image was so dark it was hard to tell what was being recorded ; When I played it back the audio seemed distorted. I tried playing it back on my tv and computer to see if it was just the speaker...

Not satisfied

Not a all time use camera, but its a fair outdoor usage camera for those who are not going to put importance on audio output.

Pocket size and Handy, easy to use, easy to download and share, sturdy design

Bad sound reproduction, continuous after-record clicking noise in the audio, barely visible operating touch button labels, extremely noisy(bad) low light video and pictures, not good for even medium scale party videoing, unnecessarily large lens for a...

Hey, there's a reason why this camera was released in the late spring of 2010 with an MSRP of $250 , a street price of $200, and now (Sept 2010) retailers are discounting it to $129. If it weren't for the noise, it would have been a Flip killer. Its a...

Cheap, optical zoom unheard of in this class of camera, time lapse mode

The autofocus motor noise is picked up by the mic, and when you play back any video "click-a-click-a-click" is heard continuously. You don't think you care about it, but once you notice it you can't shake it

Very Disappointing

Still don't know how long it should take to recharge the battery. No lens cover.

Birthday present for wife. Initially she was very happy. It looks good and has a good list of "features". Photos were average to above average

Battery did not come precharged. Owners manual is insufficient. "Optical" zoom shows darker picture when zooming even with enough light. Capacitive short. (Item makes clicking noise when in use, and clicking gets faster and more intense when stopped. )
